Cam Lay Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Seriously considering a used Nero in Hendersonville, just a couple of hours north of me. It's been on ebay repeatedly, but they've come back to me with an acceptable second-chance offer. Bike has 16K on it. Steve at Moto Nexus says it's in good shape for its age, other than being a bit faded. (The valve covers are quite faded, in fact, making the claim of "garage kept" and all that a bit er, worthy of some thought. I'm buying it to ride, mind you, not for other people to admire...) ;-) Anybody familiar with this one? Any issues with the 04 Neros I should be aware of? Supposedly has Feracci cans and a PC. Thanks, C

Thanks, C Those're good bikes. A few had soft cams, but that would've revealed itself by now. Save yourself the angst, and service the forks pre-emptively. Do it yourself if you can, so you can be sure the old fluid and gunk gets thoroughly pumped and flushed out.
Skeeve Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 (The valve covers are quite faded, in fact, making the claim of "garage kept" and all that a bit er, worthy of some thought. "Garage kept" means where it is parked at night, not during the day.[0] W/ 16k miles on it, you know it has been ridden, & may in fact be a regular commuter [which if it was parked out in the sun all day, would explain the fading.] Ask the seller how far he lives from work, so you'll know if it was always ridden cold [ie, mayonnaise in the valve covers] or if he lived far enough from work for the engine to actually reach operating temps before he arrived... [0] 'Cause moisture from condensation or bad weather is the enemy of all things motorcyclic, not so much sun [altho' excessive sun can do bad things to the rubber & plastic bits & the finish, as you noted.]
orangeokie Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 . . . Steve at Moto Nexus says it's in good shape for its age, other than being a bit faded. (The valve covers are quite faded, in fact, making the claim of "garage kept" and all that a bit er, worthy of some thought. . . . I was watching that auction and had the same thoughts with reference to the claim it had been garage kept, yet the heads were definitely sun faded. <_>
