The steel spacer is just under 3.5 mm thick. about 4 regular washers should do it if they aren't in you box of bits, or perhaps you could shorten it's thread.

HA, neither of my original mirrors have the spacer, but both do appear to have the space!

Those Sport mirrors work better than the OEM mirrors on my Suzuki Bandit.

 

They were in a box of spare parts that came with my Sport. I researched the topic to figure out how the mirror stalks stayed tight.
