My bike originally was a Florida bike with all the corrosion salt n humidity a coastal city can give. The factory exhaust is very dingy and I want to clean it up. What is the metal used in the ex. pipes, crossver etc. ?

I want it to look good without any surprises when I get through. Can anyone help ? ? ?

Pipes (headers and collector) are stainless and can be made like new with Scothbrite, NeverDull, or any other good polish. And of course a lot of elbow grease!

I didn't want to get started and end up with a mess......When you say Scotchbrite, are you referring to the Scotchbrite pads ?

Yep. This stuff: 07448.jpg

It comes in different grades. Just work your way down to the finest stuff and finish with kitchen sink cleaner. Works great.

Not just any kitchen cleaner, it's gotta be Bon Ami! Like the Doors sang, it's stronger than dirt!

... + extra fine wire wool,...

If you use steel wool on your pipes, make certain it's stainless steel wool, or you'll embed little particles of carbon steel in the surface of the pipes which will then rust & make your pipes ugly. Same reason you never use a carbon steel wire wheel to clean aluminum b4 welding... :nerd:
