RoyB Posted August 30, 2011 Share Posted August 30, 2011 I use the Electric Avenue, Amplirider ( http://www.electric-avenues.com/amplirider.html ) in many installations. I've installed dozens of them for myself and friends. This device is a simple headphone amplifier designed for motorcycle use. This unit has three inputs and a headphone output with a remote mounted volume control. At $65 it is an absolute winner and Gary, the Electric Ave owner is a joy to deal with. But motorcycles, especially heavily "electroniced" new bike have lots of electrical noise whenever you try to add amplifiers and such. For years I've been using simple DC line voltage filters with 92% success. This is usually good enough because with wind noise you can't hear the 8% noise. But Gary at EA recommended I try a 418-EC1TA11N Cincon DC/DC Converter available through Mouser Electronics ( http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Cincon/EC1TA11N/?qs=2aVd7r%252bsIZMxD85%2fm03LRw%3d%3d ) I'm hear to tell you that this little device is simply amazing. On my K1200R, which has more electronics than the Space Shuttle, it removed 99.3% of all the alternator and ignition noise. The beauty of it is that it is about the size of a thumb nail and about 3/16" thick. You need to solder four wires to the device and then just wire it in series with the 12V pos and neg. going to the Amplirider.......Done. Having my GPS, MP3/Phone and Radar Detector all going into a set of ear buds is a wonderful thing. Listen to music, hear GPS commands, hear the phone ring, get messages from the phone and be alerted to speed traps is just great! And all for well under $100! Just to confirm the model No ECTA11N is listed as 12V in / 5V out - this would suit most GPS units I think you need ECTA12N 12V in / 12V out for the Amplifier Do you use a seperate converter for each device or run all like voltage on the same one? Roy The Amplirider only needs about 3V for full performance (this is what Gary told me) I only isolated the Amplirider. All other devices are running throught an aux fuse block directly to the battery. The Escort 8500 radar detector is a real noisy bugger. If I simply shut it off, I lose the last .03% of the noise.... I have supported this site with donations (have you?), tried to help other members when I could, and I bought the t-shirt. Next, I don't know how you were raised, but I don't make derogetory comments about people I know nothing about. I may disagree with the content of a post, but that doesn't mean I rip into the person. You seem to feel that's o.k., so permit me to answer the accusations you have leveled at me, even though I do not know you in any way. I have been riding on the road for almost thirty years, way more than half my life. I live in Illinois, about 15 minutes from the Wisconsin border. Illinois is notoriuosly flat, and yet my tires have no, as in zero, "chicken strips", I'll bet yours does. Most of my miles are commuting, and I ride the whole year, if there's not alot of ice on the road, down to about 20 degrees. I have toured the country in the winter, skiing in Colorado, arriving with several feet of snow on the ground. Been in torrents of rain, even a couple tornadoes. Has your bike seen anything below 45 degrees and clear, sunny skies, on purpose? Well? When I can, my favorite ride is to the Iowa side of the Mississippi, about 190 miles, one way. If I do a day ride, it totals about 600 miles. If I can, since I have a family to take care of, and stay over night, I usually put on about 800 miles in a 24 hour period. My bike pulls past 140 mph quite easily, since it was built at Fast by Ferracci, with the entire catalog of parts, and the machine work done there. Mr. Ferracci did my ECU remapping himself. I count among my friends the owner of one of the top Guzzi shops in the country. When my wife went into labor with my last child, she called the shop, first. He told me the news. I was entered into the record books last year at the Bonneville Salt Flats, having helped two friends achieve a land speed record. Until you can prove better, I have some advice for you. Don't write checks your smart ass mouth can't keep, and shut the Fu-k up, you sniveling little man. Now, since you've seen fit to make "inferences" about my person, with no prior knowledge of me, allow me to make a couple about you, of which two likely sceneios seem to fit... 1.
