LowRyter Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I've tried this every way known. The only confidence I've had is using a needle. And with that, cutting off the point. I made the 55 degree gizmo that was on the first page of the greasing the u joint thread, and it worked fine on Rosie and the Scura. So, I confidently was going to show my kid how to do it on his 00 Greenie. Couldn't do it. There's something different... so what do I need to do ?
mznyc Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Lee if you don't know if the rear brake and clutch fluid have been replaced recently ,it's much easier with the rear wheel off.The clutch reservoir and nipple are difficult to get to.....FWIW And you greased/inspected the rear bearings and rear drive splines?

Yes I did change the fluid in the rear brake and the clutch line after I removed the rear wheel. I inspected the rear bearings and the splines. When they put a new rear tire on they apparently greased the spines and the rear bearings. Everything looks good and fresh, ready for the new riding season.
docc Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 The needle I ended up with is made to pierce rubber seals with a sharp point. I ended up truncating the the shaft (cut it off) and deburred it, to then press the ball into the Zerk and pump in the grease (of your choice). Again, early Sport. No idea why they are so much less accessible than after 2001.
nikolides Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Hi All Just taken off the swinging arm to lubricate the front UJ. I found the UJ loose on the output splines. The UJ on the Drive Box end is on so tight I can't get it off despite removing the bolts completely. Not sure how tight to make everything on re-assembly. Also the roller bearing on the O/S of the Drive Box in a shocking state. How do I get the old one out? Many thanks
