GraeV11 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 If I grab the transmission housing on my 2002 V11 I can rock it very slightly from side to side. It gives a distinct knock. Reason I am manhandling my transmission is that I am getting a slight vibration from there (Well lets just say a new and interesting vibration), especially on overrun. Is the ability to rock it normal, are my bearings shot, or other ? Thanks. Lots of nice oil in there BTW, and bike handles great.
gstallons Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Uh..... I am not sure you should be able to do that ? Have you gone over ALL the bolts mounting everything to everything.
luhbo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I had the same phenomenon some years ago. The long bolt below the pegs and also the one above the gearbox had came loose. Tighten the lower one, but be careful with the one above the gearbox (it's hidden under the airbox). Tighten this one too much and you'll have cracked the housing. Hubert
GraeV11 Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Thanks. Working away from home this week so will get to it at the weekend and report back. Cheers.
GraeV11 Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Yep, couple of loose bolts. Hhmmmmmmmmmmmm.
GraeV11 Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 Good you could fix it. Yes thanks Hubert, just a bit taken aback that some fairly major bolts have worked loose. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. I can't recall another bike where this was ever an issue, even my ratty old Triumph (mind you, spent most of my time trying to undo bolts on that heap). I guess it is just part of that Guzzi 'character'. Thanks for your help as ever.
