Hi everyone

This is my first post on the forum so hopefully it will go well!

I just thought I would share my recent V11 experience as I noticed other folks have had similar problems recently and others over the years.

Took the bike out a few days ago and it performed well after having not used it for two months. On my way back stopped at the lights and found it was stuck in 1st gear when I pulled away. I limped back home (about 3 miles).

I have now drained the gearbox, removed the starter motor and I am just about to take off the gearbox cover.I have two of the springs by me (ratchet spring & selector spring).

I will try and get some pictures and update on progress.

Cheers, thanks for the link - the best pictures to follow I have seen.

It's a nice sunny Sunday morning here in Devon UK so I am keen to continue the job.

I got on well with the gear selection problem yesterday. I found it to be a broken ratchet spring. I fitted a new one, checked the operation of the gears 1 thru to 6 and reassembled. I took the bike out for a road test last night and everything worked as it should. I must admit once you have taken the gear selector apart it makes for very sympathetic and delicate gear changes.

I have owned the Cafe Sport since June 2010 and it has now done 10347 miles but I am not the first person to remove the selector cover judging by the copper lube on the threads and the damage to the slot srew that holds the boomerang plate in place.

Once again thanks to Fotoguzzi for the excellent link to Wild Guzzi site.

I have managed hopefully to post some pix of the work showing the spring etc........

Great,glad it worked out Rich.I havent heard of a ratchet spring breaking yet.Any one else?

Jaap would it be possible to import the write-up into the "How to" section? Since Ive been in there so many times I wanted to do this as many new members have been having stuck shifting I thought it would help,but dont think I can improve much on Rocker's thread.

I thought that is the spring that always breaks. I've got a shard of one hanging on the wall here in the shop.

I think this is the spring that always breaks (pawl spring).

My local parts supplier, Motomecca in the UK, calls it a ratchet spring.

That was my initial inquest on Wild Guzzi and all he help I received from everyone was just great. As many sated over there, it seems to be an every 10-12 thousand mile deal for many bikes and not for others. But with all the help you can get around these forums (and the great people on them), nothing is too hard to figure out eventually!!

I was lucky because I new mine was in 1st gear when it broke, so the selector plate was in 1st with the two dots aligned when I removed it. I checked the operation of the gears 1-N-23456 before replacing. I can fully understand how folks become intrigued with this job. I felt like
