cash1000 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 How do you know if clutch needs replacing or is on its way out? My RM lets out a short squeal when taking off from stand still. Does this mean clutch is failing?
docc Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Does it slip (rpm increases without speed) through the torque range? Is there a drip of oil at the bell housing weep hole?
TeamFab Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 How do you know if clutch needs replacing or is on its way out? My RM lets out a short squeal when taking off from stand still. Does this mean clutch is failing? Sounds like a dry thrust washer!!
cash1000 Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 No clutch or oil drip! What's involved in sorting the dry thrust washer?
Baldini Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Thrust bearing assembly is behind clutch slave cylinder which is mounted on back of gearbox. From memory, I think you can get slave cylinder off without removing swingarm. It's held by by three countersunk socket cap screws. Then you should be able to pull thrust bearing assembly out. I think thrust bearing assembly is lubed by gearbox oil migrating along clutch pushrod tunnel, but I'm not sure. I would grease whole assembly anyhow. Thrust bearings do wear out & can seize if they get dry, dirty, or corroded, so it may well need replacing. KB
cash1000 Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 Yes you can remove clutch slave cylinder without removing swingarm. I just had to to change bleed nipple on cylinder How do you remove the thrust bearing? There is not much room behind the motor to use a puller!
GuzziMoto Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 The thrust bearing is not like a normal bearing. It is more like a cross between a washer and a bearing.
gstallons Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Google Torrington bearing and you will see what they look like . They have two flat washers with a caged needle roller assy. between .
