docc Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Why do I sing the blues? Seriously? All this talent, Phil Collins on drums; is that Dizzy Gillespie's horn? 1
Scud Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 LowRyter - I saw the *short-lived* post over on Wild Guzzi. I guess some people thought at least one of the photos (Trump's face on the inflatable pig from the Animals album) was too political. So that whole thread got deleted? Looks like a great show. If you have more pics, I'd enjoy seeing them.

I sent one of the offended parties a PM and tried to make it good. Not quite fair to all the Floyd fans. I took that photo off from this thread "just in case".. I've been able to watch a good portion of the show I saw last night on You Tube. Regarding photos, they suck, I had a camera phone. I really wasn't expecting a spectacle like this, politically or technically. here are most of the photos. https://www.dpreview.com/galleries/7320746049/albums/roger-waters
LowRyter Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 The show goes on. I spent the last week in Colorado, visiting with friends and friends of friends. We piled into a couple of minivans and headed to Boulder to see the Dead & Co. This getting to be an annual event. This group has a Phd, an attorney, 3 teachers, a computer scientist, a private social workers, a utility specialist, a real estate /oil lease investor, a couple of civil servants. The Mrs and I and a few spouses that didn't make it aren't in the photo. Boulder was having a Deadfest downtown with live music, vendors, beer and food. The photos are lousy from the phone. Although, if I had taken this guy's advice the photo might've been clearer. Getting to field there was quite a crowd. As close to sellout I've ever seen in a stadium. The Dead have there own brand of political action and charities. Now for the Band. The set list was a classic that began with Truckin, Smokestack Lightening and Bertha. Then after those prelims, the show took off. Ramble On Rose, Friend of The Devil (unplugged), Loser, Brown Eyed Woman, Turn On Your Love Light (zydeco style). Next Set: Help on the way/Slipknot/Franklin's Tower, China doll, Dark Star, drums and space, Stella Blue, China Cat Sunflower,I know you rider. And the Encore was a predicted One More Saturday...... The Band kept a slower pace, perhaps a quarter beat slower than most shows. Bill & Mickey were very tight with the slower tempo -not sounding like a coffee can full of rocks. The slower time only encouraged Meyer to play more notes. No mater how high the the cliff he jumped, Oteil and Jeff were the net to catch him. Bobby directing everything with hand signals. John, Bob and Oteil singing.
LowRyter Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 A little follow up. I downloaded the concert and listened to it on the drive back home. These recordings seem to grow on you after a a couple of listens. The recording is a little cleaner than the performance sound system. A little clearer vocals and smoothing of the lead guitar. The show sounds more polished on the recording. Last year, the Dead rehearsed 60 songs for the tour. I have no idea how many songs are ready for this tour but 3 I heard last year (Bertha, Stella Blue, One More Saturday Night) were quite a bit different with slower tempos, different extended solos and more solos from Jeff on the keys. Of course, the Dead are a high wire act and no two shows are alike. Meyer and Oteil give quite a fusion jazz feel to it. I think John tries to leave Oteil (bass) while Oteil just smiles and has no trouble keeping up, go ahead and try it again. Bob gives hand signals, holding up 1 or two fingers or points down and leads the band. The drums were tighter and steadier with the slower tempo. Of course the crowd is it's own show. Bill Walton being the most noteworthy fan. He's a head taller than everyone around him. I was able to cop some of the best seats in the arena. My friends weren't as lucky They got general adm tickets and were in the back of the stadium. The folks around me were really interesting. At least tho groups were from Okla like me. One tie dyed, 60 something gentleman in front of me was having a very good time. He was telling me this was third show he attended and had been following the band. The kicker was the he was a retired County Commissioner from Woodward OK, perhaps the bluest (politically) areas in the entire USA. He was retired and can do what he wants now. Another quip was from a gentleman behind me. He was pretty annoyed with a pair of 30-something couples that were standing and shouting at each other the entire concert. He said when Jerry did a solo not a word was spoken. I replied, yeah, their yapping is annoying but the sound system is much better now. And mentioning standing, I was standing and rocking about 80% of the time. Only sitting to rest when I could see the band (not just the screen). My buddies in the back reported that they never "had" to stand. OK. I have a feeling that many of us will be in Boulder next year. Hopefully the fans and the band will all be upright and the crick don't rise.
gstallons Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 I hate to interrupt the Dead , but this is better late than never . June 16 ,1965 Bob Dylan recorded " Like a Rolling Stone " . One of the greatest recordings of all time . This and all the music we listen to and incorporate into our lives and philosophies is as important as the food we eat , the liquid we drink and the air we breathe . 1
luhbo Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Room 29, Cocker/'Gonzales'. Buy the album. Great as background for all kind of maintenance work.

World Music: King Sunny Ade Fatoumata Diawara - maybe the cleanest voice from Africa since Sade, perhaps the equivalent of an African Sarah Maclachlan in terms of purity of voice Tinariwen Reggaeton: Wisin y Yandel Daddy Yankee American Rap: Notorious Big Some Tupac, some Snoop Indian Rap; MC Panjabi - GREAT party music
