Guest Brent Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I saw a good tip on this forum about using a gasket sealant on the oil pan to 'semi-glue' the gasket on, so I decided to try this when I changed the engine oil this weekend. I applied the thinnest layer possible of "Permatext Form-A-Gasket", but as I tightened the bolts, some of the sealant squeezed out around the seam. Just a thin line.... I assume that the same thing happened along the seam inside the sump, and am now worried that the sealant will break loose and foul something in the engine. I keep telling myself that the filter and screen will pickup any sealant that may break loose, but...I still worry. Should I stop worrying?
Guest Buck Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Yes, stop worrying. If it's just a small bead and you let it dry properly before filling it with oil it won't disintegrate. Anytime you put sealer on a gasket and smash the gasket some sealer will ooze out. There's no way around it.
RichMaund Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Form-a-gasket is really tough stuff compared to regular RTV. Let is squish slightly, give it time to dry and then use it. It can be hell to remove though. It really sticks to a clean surface!
