JRD Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Does anyone have the paint code number for the starter motor covers on an '02 Le Mans with the champagne/gray color combination. I cleaned my throttle bodies with a carb/T/B cleaner. The paint on the lower edge of the starter motor cover spider webbed and I would like to re-spray it. Thanks- Jerry
Bill Hagan Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I will be astonished if anyone responds with something like that. Heck, Guzzi doesn't have "paint codes" they share with anyone for the newest models. I think Guzzi paints are just like lots of other Guzzi items: from the parts bin! "Hey, Luigi, let's see what mixing these leftover colors will make." I now shop for touch-up paint in the ladies' nail-polish section for my Norge and Griso. No, really. I do. Advantage of red bikes, tho even those are different reds. It's more of a challenge finding the right stuff for my HDM EV. In your case, I'd just take that piece of plastic into Lowes and find the rattle can with the top that comes closest. Buon fortuna! Bill
Scud Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I was just talking with someone at Harper's Moto Guzzi today. For about $75 your paint code can be "Carbon Fiber Replacement." It's not on their website, but the guy said they had them. Then you can sell your stocker on ebay - maybe even for the same price. Cheap (net difference), easy, and think of the weight savings... probably more than a whole ounce.
docc Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 . . .I now shop for touch-up paint in the ladies' nail-polish section for my Norge and Griso. No, really. I do. . . . I did this once, sitting on the floor at the local WalMart poring through the nail polish for a match to my gouged porkchop. After a while I could feel the security cameras trained on me . . . creepy . . . 1
waspp Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Take the cover to a good auto paint supply store and have them scan it for the correct color. Multi layer applications can be difficult but you should be able to get a very close match. Someone who sells PPG, Spies Heker, or Nason lines should be able to help.
sp838 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I posted the paint codes here a couple years ago, they seem to have disappeared... If you have a bodyshop that uses Akzo Nobel Lesonal paint (go to a Mercedes Benz specialist), they can look them up for you. They are the only ones who have Moto Guzzi paint color codes.
sp838 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Here we go, was moved to Frequently Asked Questions section apparently: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18597 Again, our paints are Akzo Nobel Lesonal, and they are not single stage which means there is a base color, the color itself and a clear. This makes it hard to mix up single stage paint for touch up, but if you really want the right one, you'll need to find a bodyshop that shoots that paint if you want an exact match. Probably not worth the effort for touch up. I'd go to a drug store with your side cover and find the closest matching silver nail polish. You can see the color of the polish through the bottle. Touch up paint at an auto store never matches the color on the cap.
JRD Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for all the replies! I should have known a 15 minute job was going to turn into an all day adventure. I'll take the cover back off and truck on don to the local automotive paint supply store and see how close they can match it, I don't really care if its perfect, I'm sure it will get its share of dings and scratches. Although the carbon fiber cover sounds interesting...... thanks guys- Jerry
sp838 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Carbon fiber one is very nice, I have one as well. Got it from Harper's, was not expensive but took a little while to arrive.

In my experience, those "scan" efforts, which made such great sense in theory, were never quite right, and were also VERY expensive even for a small batch. Bill
JRD Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 SP838- well if I get the carbon fiber cover we both know where that is going... next it will be the front fender, then..oh cant have that fugly plastic thing over the back wheel....do you hear that...the sound of the cash register ringing and the ATM spitting out twenty dollar bills by the dozens :-0 1
sp838 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Haha, JRD, I know it all too well... The sound of money flying out of my pockets.
Scud Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 If you need any help rationalizing - you could spend a few hundred on the bike you have or you could convince yourself that you need a brand new bike for $15,000 (or more). See how much you've "saved" already? 1
sp838 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Yes, I much prefer the slow bleeding to the sudden disemboweling.
