New tach - running way off

Replaced the tach on my 2001 V11 Sport with new one from Harpers. Old one would read above 5000 revs - new one had the exact same wiring and leads and slipped in easily. But, the tach now reads 4000 revs at idle (wrong!)! It seems to be 2000 revs above where it should be.do I need to recalibrate something here? It is a Veglia white face like the old one but the tach needle is orange not white. Any thoughts?

There is nothing to adjust on those, send it back to Harpers.

 

You are using the stock wires?

 

Are you sure you have the wires in the right spot?

 

Red/Black to +

Black to ground 

Yellow/Black (might be Yellow/Green) to -
