czakky Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Anybody have any experience shipping bikes in the states? Any outfits to recommend? Is there a way to ship without bottoming the suspension for a week? Moving back to the Midwest (WI) from FL.

I used there normal shipping, they do have express shipping if you need it by a certain date. Good luck on your relocation.
Scud Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 No experience with shippers, but if you want some DIY advice, I can help with that. Last week I towed my LeMans close to 1,000 miles. I used a roll-on wheel chock attached to the floor-brackets of my toy-hauler via carabiners and turnbuckles. Front wheel - roll onto chock, no need to compress suspension Rear wheel - strap around wheel with tension pulling bike backward Side to side stability - one strap through each passenger peg bracket, some compression of rear suspension. +1 on best wishes on the move. Gotta ask though - isn't there some other way to get it there over a long weekend? Something involving a one-way plane ticket and about 10 tanks of gas?

Don't know which would put my mind more at ease. The other option is to recruit somebody from where I'm headed (I got buddies near there) to do a tandem ride/drive. I'm on puppy hauling duty too. otherwise I appreciate the advice and I will be getting a couple of quotes from the mentioned brokers. Thanks for the input! This moving across country stuff was much easier when it was just me and a bike...

That bike-dragger thing would also put a big flat spot on your back tire and maybe over 1,000 miles on the odometer - so maybe factor in the cost of a rear tire. Shipping seems easier, cheaper, and better for the bike than that. But if you've got other stuff that you want to be sure to have when you get there (or along the way), maybe rent a small trailer that could take the bike and the stuff. Your Volvo (assuming it already has a hitch) could probably pull a couple thousand pounds. Have you considered one of these?

I used Key Board when I had my LeMans shipped from Houston to Clearwater. I found the rates to be very competitive and the guys were very professional. Bike was insured for $18K with $0.00 deductible included in the shipping fee. Shoot me a text and I can give you what I paid door to door. Highly recommended. Jerry

Just got done talking to some buddies in my hometown of Minneapolis and people actually volunteered to "store" my bike. Since I've been trying to talk my dad into a V7 for a while. think I'll send it to his barn until I can get her a proper home. Nobody was volunteering when she was eating her wiring harness though...

fotoguzzi Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I;'ve shipped four different times with diff companies.. Haulbikes.com was by far the most knowledgable and careful. this guy needed to be taught how to tie down before breaking the sidestand.
