That's what I thought, "Man, that is a hot looking Nova!"

You blokes are on the right track. From the Wiki:

Despite the styling being unique, the Monaro nevertheless featured styling cues derived from GM designs, employing a "coke bottle" look similar to that of the Camaro, Corvair, and Nova coupés of the late 1960s.

Ps I think it was a Celica gearbox but definitely something similar if not.

Yeah, it would have been. I remember hearing about that at the time. I gather the Celica box was a more or less straight up bolt in replacement for the "Aussie" four speed. And worked better and was stronger...

By the time the Nova (Chevy II) was done, I think all the GM divisions except Caddy had a version.   The last one was a kinda "Euro" version for the gas crisis with the stovebolt 6, hatchback and 4 speed manual overdrive.

The bad boy was the '69 SS with "396" (402 CI) L-78 solid lifter 375 hp (also rated at 425 or 450 hp in '65 Corvette).

My dad had a '70 Chevy II 4 door company car.   That was the tightest, stiffest bodied car I'd ever sat in despite the rubber carpets.

I think there were more "pro street" Novas on the road than Camaros or Mustangs.  I remember a disappointed Road Runner guy getting beat by a new SS 350 on a marked off portion of May Ave.  The MOPAR fans were disappointed.

I knew. I had one. The closest I could get to owning a car that could look as good as all my friends BMW's...

Had to sell it when I left France...

This would be the version in Europe that P5X mentioned. Opel Manta. B)

There was even a film starring it. Well, actually it was social commentary based on cliches revolving around the Manta, but anyway...

My little tart-of-a-roadster has been at my specialist shop for ten weeks. With these beautiful spring days, I miss her spritely ways she cheers me up on the lovely backroads and winding country lanes.

The wife said, "Why don't you just sell it ?"

It's okay, I still love her.

The wife? Yeah, keeping her, too. :o

The Miura is my favorite Lamborghini.

My favorite too. The beautiful Miura is proportioned so well, you can't appreciate how low and ground hugging it is until you are standing next to it, towering over it. Although they weren't crazy expensive when new, they sure are now. Well above my budget, so I enjoy driving my Toyota MR2 Spyder instead.
