footgoose Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Side by side visuals show the Stucci built heavier and stronger than the FBF. I ran the FBF for about 5kmi. No cracks. The Stucci was a Mother of all bombs to install. Though built well, it was not built straight. The FBF was a perfect fit, very friendly. I wanted to use it, and was going to weld on a 'crack reducing' re-enforcing plate, just making it a bit longer, so I could utilize the central hang bracket, but I got lazy and will just go with the Stucci now that it's on.
czakky Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 I had an FBF x-over for about 7k miles. It developed hairline cracks after the first 1500 miles. Took it to a good welder who immediately could see the issues with the original welds. He welded it up and I added some bracing using exhaust clamps and extension springs bolted to the original support bracket. It held up well for the next 5500 miles. I through an ad up looking for a Stucchi and found one. I didn't have any issues with mounting on mine but I feel like the second hand Ti-Exhaust I mounted might have been configured for a Stucchi type x-over.

Interesting, my Stucci fitted well and I'm used to Termi systems that fit horribly. Must have been a one off? As an aside my 1198 has a full titanium Acrapovic system and it not only fits perfectly but is also a work of art especially in the welding and the slip fit connections. Hard to believe you can build such a complex system and its absolutely a perfect fit. Akra are the #1 exhaust systems in my view and unlike Termi sell the same systems to Joe average as they do to factory Superbike teams. Zoom in and check out the welds on the Akra system Ciao 1
Chuck Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I had a Stucci on the Centauro, and it fit ok, but the welds looked like they'd been done with a wire welder by one of Pete's shaved apes ..

Here you go Chuck some Akrapovic titanium welding porn. Same as you can buy over the counter. Apparently all the welds are done manually by expert ladies. A thing of beauty and I garantee would fit perfectly. 1
knumbnutz Posted April 21, 2017 Author Posted April 21, 2017 The guy that does my pipe qork did the britten. Noel lives about 10mins away and has a shop on the gold coast called pipeworx. czakky Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Yeah, that is a pretty good thing to have on a resume as an exhaust guy. Britten that is. 1
knumbnutz Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 Haven't been doing much on the bike, been too busy at work One thing that has been holding up progress is how to buy or make velocity stacks. There were some plastic ones that are printed but i just couldn't. I like machined parts. Which us of course why i went to the trouble of getting a lathe and mill to make bits. So ive been searching machining forums to see how to make the inside radius curve on the billet and still after a month of looking i can't find anyone who is as silly as me to want to do it. There is no off the shelf tool so i had to design and make it myself. Two parts to this. Firstly i want pod filters and secondly i want proper stacks. Anyway... heres how they turned up. 68C Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Good looking bellmouth. Have you had a chance to look at Dr Gordon Blair's work?https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.profblairandassociates.com/pdfs/RET_Bellmouth_Sept.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwim6-LNtcTUAhVjIMAKHUeAAEYQFggoMAE&usg=AFQjCNHwmS5OuwPcpDnnWrcA9qmXLOVajg&sig2=bxIyY9BDLGhfMl2Bn2_KQgThe file was too big for me to attach. Perhaps moderator could do so. [moderator edit: I couldn't find a way to make that appear outside of the posted link, not even a representative copied image. Good link, though, and worth a look!, Best, docc] 1

Excellent find !Well theres no chance of doing a perfect elliptical shape but its close as its a perfect radius and looking through the artical its a close second which is good enough for me. 68C Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 I have always admired Dr Blair of Queens University Belfast since his work on the 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust system back in the 70's on the Norton Commando. 1
