stewgnu Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Alright All, can i get opinions on this? I ordered some new silencers from mivv and when they (eventually..) came i noticed a couple of cracks in one of them. See pix below. Obviously they are purchased 'new', but will they be ok? Worried these cracks just likely to grow and grow with use. Should I be concerned?
Cyborg Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Whether or not the cracks will grow (and they probably will ), presumably you paid for new and should get new. Doesn't bode well for the manufacturer letting them out the door. The true measure of a company is not whether or not they make a mistake, it's what they do to fix it. Including preventing it from happening again. I wouldn't accept them...... and I feel your pain.
stewgnu Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 I'm inclined to agree. However it took 40 days to get them sent from italy to the uk... The thought of returning them and waiting for replacements fills me with misery.
Stick Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Email them the photo, and see what they say? Also, perhaps suggest they ship you a new one, before you ship the cracked on back. Maybe pre-pay for the new replacement, and then get refund when they receive the cracked one? Just some ideas. Not like it gets you out there running with these a ton sooner...
stewgnu Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Aye, i've messaged mivv directly, no reply as yet. The thing that really piddles me off is at some point i'll have to change my forum avatar.
jharvey Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I almost ordered the MIVV's. I'm glad I modified my stock cans instead.
stewgnu Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Ay up j, how did you modify them? Did you drop a jackhammer thru them?
jharvey Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Slid off the aluminum can, cut the entire core out, except about 1/2" of the very front. This gave me a flange to river to and about 3/4" of pipe left. Made my own core out of woven stainless for better sound absorption. Used the beauty cover on the back as the rear locator for the core and riveted it on. Doesn't have the fancy SS river beauty ring like a Mistral aluminum muffler, but looks correct. Sounds awesome, fully serviceable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
stewgnu Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Well they're on now. I have to say- I thought the ol' titty mistrals sounded funky but ... 0.0 ...
stewgnu Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 I listened to that twice in a row. However i'm probably in the wrong place to ask 'is there summit wrong wi' me?' 2
Rox Lemans Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 From the pics they look more cut than cracked....
stewgnu Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 From the pics they look more cut than cracked.... Think so? They run along a weld line. I'm surprised they got sent out, unless they wanted rid of some 'seconds' ?
stewgnu Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 Dude, i'm on it- been busy riding but will get some snaps soon.
