Tomchri Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Have you found all the answers to K Roys questions ? He knows,,,, you will find it. Cheers tom.
docc Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 True that, on following Kiwi_Roy's advice. gatorman, If I am reading correctly, you are trying to use a starter for a California on a V11? Certainly, the flywheels are different. Enough different that those starter are incompatible? IDK. Anyone with this experience?

Original starter on a 2001 V11 would be Valeo, not Bosch. From the parts "fiche" ---> Starter motor Valeo GU30730711 Check with r3datom9 currently parting out a 2000 Sport in CA, USA. That would be the correct starter for your 2001: https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20736-2000-sport-part-out/ Here is the V11 replacement starter that Tinus89 found in The Netherlands for 60Euro: https://www.winparts.nl/motordelen-toebehoren/startmotoren-dynamo-s/startmotor/c834/startmotor-moto-guzzi-1-2-kw/p582790.html "Aantal tanden" = 9 (tooth count) The starter you are using has 8 teeth?

Also, take a look at Gordon's comments on MGCycle for the replacement starter and the "Alternate Starter": http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_159&products_id=1227
Kiwi_Roy Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 (edited) Thanks for weighing in Docc, I have no experience with swapping starters. Sorry it was me that mentioned Bosch, Gatorman said D6RA2 It sounds as though Gatorman has the bikes original starter as well though, that should fit I still don't know for sure he is talking about a VII or something else, we don't have the obligatory picture, LOL So it turns out to be a VII Bassa at least that's what it says on the side cover, beautuful mile muncher, the EVs had foot boards, I prefer the pegs and love those tubeless wheels, a classic Guzzi for sure. Edited April 14, 2019 by Kiwi_Roy I see the picture
gatorman Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 gatorman i do not have the original starter. it came with the d6ra2. so the person i got the bike from changed the original starter and installed the d6ra2 and never rode the bike again because the d6ra2 is not the right starter for the bike and would not start
guzzigary Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Looking at the gallery post methinks gatorman has a California not a V11. 1

All my comments were applicable to a 2001 V11 Sport or Rosso Mandello. The EV has a different (5 speed) gearbox and different flywheel from the V11 Sport, so none of my replies are likely going to be helpful.
docc Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 Or would the starter I linked you to on MGCycle solve your troubles?
