Positive Clutch Switch bullet connectors *Wiggle Test* . . . Goes like this:

> Take the seat off, turn the Run Switch off.

>Look at the dash, turn the Ignition key on: all the lights come on, including indicator lights.

>Turn the Run Switch on: the "back" relays go through a sequence of *clicks* and the fuel pump whirrrrs.

>Pull in the clutch (listen for a tiny *click* at the lever microswitch) and press the Starter Button. Nothing?

>*Wiggle* the wire from the Clutch Switch into the left side of the loom (or turn the "bars" from side to side while holding both the clutch in and the Starter Button pressed).

 

The starter suddenly *catches*? Look to the nefarious "bullet connectors" for the Clutch Switch alongside the left of the frame just aft of the headstock. While they are easiest to service with the "Tank Off", they can be seen to in situ; with really small hands and a penchant for cursing like a New Zealander with a Nero Corsa . . . B)

Now that Moto Murphy's LeMans starts every time, he's moving on to other issues. Looks like the relays are still Siemans.

Just for future knowledge how many of those relays on the link given is needed to replace the factory 5?

Replace all five. There was some thinking that the last two weren't that important, but #5 runs the fuel pump constantly and may actually stay the hottest.

 

All five relays, five-pin OMRONS, carry your others for extras in case you meet up with other V11 and they need *assistance* . . .

#5 has failed me twice. both times after hot run, shut off, and restart (attempt) after 10-15 min. Not Omrons. Both times, thanks to this site, I had extras with me.

actually my EV would do the same thing.   I'd stop for gas and the thing wouldn't restart.  I always had ear plugs on a I couldn't listen for the fuel pump. After I played with stuff it would restart for no apparent reason  

 

 After it happened on a group ride, one of the other riders played with the fuse and fuel pump came right on.  It was a combination of the fuse having a little corrosion and not seating in the slot.  I probably would have never figured it out.

That happened to me at the Ohio rally this year.  We'd had an extremely heavy dew. The Mighty Scura looked like the Joads leaving the dust bowl. Climbed on, punched the button, and nothing. Took out my earplugs and the fuel pump wasn't priming. Grumble grumble. Untied everything, took the seat off, pulled the relay, stuck it back in, wiggled it around. Nothing. Sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. :)  Pulled the fuse, looks fine. Uh oh. Stuck it back in, wiggled it around.. fuel pump runs. I feel good!   :rasta:

Jaap- When I bought my first V-11 Sport about the only thing I knew about Moto Guzzi was they looked cool, sounded great and are'nt many around.  Now, thanks to this Forum I have done my own tune ups and maintenance  and feel confident that I can handle almost any problem issues.  You probably dont hear it enough from us but THANK YOU FOR THIS FORUM.  And also to everyone that shares their knowledge and experience with these bikes!

On the failure of the fuel pump to prime, also be aware of the extra blade (spade) connectors UNDER the fuse block for the front two fuses only (#1: ECU/ #2: Fuel Injection/Pump). These can loose connectivity and affect the activation of the #4 ECU Relay and #5 Fuel Injection/Pump Relay.
