guzzigary Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Finally getting a chance to to go thru the 03 Lemans I bought in October. Got the battery out to have a look, its a Spark 500 with a on the label and a stamp of 09/02. Bikes always started good for me,units on the Tender now.
guzzigary Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 I know, right Pretty amazing though. I dont remember ever getting more than 6-7 years tops out of the Yuasas I generally run.
Chuck Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Just sayin.. but the tender just might kill it. I'd charge it and leave it. When voltage drops to less than 12.5, charge it again. I've seen these batteries go 10-12 years without being on the tender. Odyssey rox. Edit: Oh, forgot. Odysseys and battery tender juniors are a bad combination. 1
Scud Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Even if the battery goes dead - save it for "originality." Some guy will be doing a full concourse restoration of a V11 in 20 years and will pay big money for an "original" battery.
docc Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 +1 on Chuck"s post re: Battery Tenders and the Odyssey. Hawker (EnerSys/Odyssey) publishes very specific parameters for both charge and float voltage/amperage. They are adamant to charge when the battery drops to 12.65v (85%, valid at 77ºF/25ºC) using 6 amps or more. Odyssey PC545 Battery conditioning That said, isn't it stunning to find a functioning battery 15 years old?
footgoose Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 that is amazing, but it's time to retire it.
docc Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I always step down my Sport battery into Swampee, the Cub Cadet, and get another 4 or 5 years from them. After getting the dedicated EnerSys charger last year, I'm expecting big things! Going to check my voltages now . . . see what needs charging.
guzzigary Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 I was "shocked "...... to see it too think its earned a good long rest
