polebridge Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 This is a question for the guys that have installed pod filters (particularly K&Ns). I have a 2004 Cafe Sport Coppa Italia and I am thinking about giving this a try. What size do I need? I guess I can just pull the collar off of one of the throttle bodies and measure but I was hoping one of you could just point me to the correct model and size. Thanks, Mike
polebridge Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Why pods? Look? Sound? Power cut-down? Two out of three ain't bad. That being the first two.
footgoose Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I just happen to have my motor out. The intakes are 46mm OD
MartyNZ Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) DD fitted 60mm throat K&N filters clamped onto the outside of the velocity stacks (trumpets) that are already fitted to the throttle bodies. These stacks can easily be salvaged from the air box without damaging anything. You should aim to have long intake ducts, and using the original velocity stacks won't degrade your performance as much as short intakes (unless you are aiming for very high rpms). Then you will need to consider where to fit the inlet air temp sensor. See: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19764 or http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19831 You will also need to figure out where to route the engine breather vent hose. I believe in using the stock airbox and the pleated paper filter that Moto International sells, however there is a great discussion on K&N filters here: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6815&page=1 and http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18909 Edited July 15, 2017 by MartyNZ
footgoose Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 oh yeah, ...throttle bodies They are 50mm. it's been a long day
polebridge Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 Thanks for the advice everyone. Good advice on the stacks. I did not know that they can be salvaged from the airbox. I will check that out. I do want to have longer stacks but it seems about impossible to find them anymore (like everything else Guzzi). There used to be some really nice aluminum ones available years ago I seem to remember but those are long gone. I have a power commander and live in Morristown NJ. Anybody happen to know if there is anybody in my area that does custom maps? Thanks!
Tom M Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Dyno Solutions in New Milford CT did the PCIII mapping on my bike for the previous owner. I don't know if John T still owns and runs the place but he was a V11 owner and member here back in the early 2000's.

I see that they are easy to remove but they flare out at the end so in order to fit 60mm pods it looks like I will have to cut off the end which means that there is no going back without getting a new set. For now I guess I will just go ahead and attach directly to the throttle bodies.

There is a filter that will fit, see the picture in this post: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19581&page=2&do=findComment&comment=215103

By the way, I really like the way that one is set up. Looks great in my opinion. Mike
polebridge Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 Ok...Here they are fitted. So far so good. One question. There is a hose that runs down the spine in from of the airbox that I had to detach. Is this a drain or intake? Do I need to get a filter on the end of it or re-route it? Thanks
coreytrevor Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 That's the breather line from the frame to the airbox. You could put one of the little K&N filters on it. It might drip a drop of oil from time to time. 1

coreytrevor Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I don't but they usually list them by the I.D. of the hose.
