cash1000 Posted November 17, 2017 Posted November 17, 2017 I need to replace fork seals as one is leaking. I've cant remove the caps because I can't access the blue hexagonal rod. The forks have been revalved and resprung using Racetech parts so inner parts of forks probably not original. The preload pipe can't be pulled away from the cap so you can get a spanner on it but you can see the blue rod through a hole in the spacer. There is a bolt with an 8mm hex head that screws vertically into the base of the fork leg. Undoing it maybe the solution. This doesn't appear on Guzzi parts diagram. Has anyone got any suggestions how I remove the cap?
coreytrevor Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Something like this is what is usually used. Universal-Fork-Spring-Compressor Or this, if you have extra hands or some tiedowns.
docc Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I was able to compress my early Marzocchi by hand and slip out the retainer. Watch yer eyes!

cash1000 Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 I get the idea. I've got everything here to make this so should be good. Doc - maybe new springs are a lot firmer than originals.

Chuck Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I was able to compress my early Marzocchi by hand and slip out the retainer. Watch yer eyes! The Ohlins are a hand job, too.
cash1000 Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Spring to strong for amazon home made spring compressor. Got a trip away this weekend so not got time to get racetech spring compressor so had to take forks to bike shop to change seals & oil. The Racetech tool would be good to get if a few V11 owners got together and shared cost. Anyone in NZ interested?
cash1000 Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Can any body give me the dimensions of the Racetech tool? I think I will have a go at building one.
LowRyter Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 sometimes it's just easier to take the bike to the shop and pay the mechanic. It's good to support those guys too.
moto fugazzi Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I took my Ohlins forks to my local Ducati dealer for new fork seals. They charged me for 1 hour of labor plus parts, and I had them back within a few hours the same day. Bringing them in the off season also helped speed up the process. If you have the time and ability, by all means build your own tool and fix them yourself. I do not have the time, but possibly the ability. Ken
gstallons Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 1 hr labor for both forks ? if they don't leak and work properly , that is a steal !
Chuck Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 ^^^^^Naa, it takes about an hour for fork seals on Ohlins. Where they hose you is on Ohlins oil.. Edit: I did a tutorial here.. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19782&hl=+ohlins%20+fork%20+seal&page=2
