voycie Posted June 18, 2018 Author Posted June 18, 2018 Thanks for the pointers guys. Tom-- no havent changed the fuel filter. Lifted tank off just to do the airfilter, bike was running fine beforehand. Is there am easy way to assess if the fuel pump is ok? Eg do I pull the hose off the red pipe and turn the igniton on to monitor/measure how much fuel is pumped through? Ideally want to be able to isolate it as the source of the issie before buyimg a new one. Meantime ill see if I can find the part you refer to just in case. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
68C Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Bit worried about you working with an open fuel system and live electrics!
voycie Posted June 18, 2018 Author Posted June 18, 2018 Fair comment I shall take care. Is there a proper process for checking this? Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
Tomchri Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Not saying it's your pump, that was my problem. Your bike was running fine, before tank off? A little plumbing job, a brass T ,hose and a gauge, my pressure was only 1.5bar , should be 3+. Quantum HFP - 385 was the pump I bought. Met a huge german guy on the Autobahn with a souped up Le Mans, me asking is she behaving and so on,,, German guy, ITS A GUZZI. You will find it. Cheers tom.
voycie Posted June 18, 2018 Author Posted June 18, 2018 Cheers Tom that makes sense ill pick up a gauge and see what pressure reading it produces. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
Tomchri Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Seee after another IPA,, just a thought,, the hoses you added under the tank,,, ? Cheers tom
voycie Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 Well I took the tank off, disconnected everything, left the two hoses off from the drains under the tank and put it back on and it fired into life first stab of the starter and revved cleanly. So, im none the wiser exactly why but it seems ok! Cant take it out as mrs V is out and the kids in bed so hopefully get a chance to run it round the block im the next day or two and see if its stable now. Fingers crossed! Almost annoyed I dont know what caused it, but grateful at the same time 1
docc Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 As delivered, the tank vent was fitted with a one way (plastic disc) valve. These must be vertical (or removed) or the tank will not vent (ie: "tank suck") usually this is noted by a great *whoooosh* when opening the filler cap. Not sure if it may only be US bikes fitted with the valve?
voycie Posted June 21, 2018 Author Posted June 21, 2018 Took it out for a run tonight, no more issues, it pulls thrpugh the range problem. Feels like the injectors need slme balancing as that pop/backfire is more obvious. Is therea simple way to use the white knob under the left injector to balance the two? docc Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 So, the only thing you changed was leaving the tank vent (and overflow) nipples open (no hoses)? Balancing the throttle bodies (white knob) requires a balancing tool ("carb tool": manometer, mercury sticks, electronic balancer, etc. that hooks to the vacuum ports on the intake manifolds behind the cylinder heads. Which begs the question, have you performed the "Decent Tune-up" to include zeroing the CO Fuel Trim and baselining the TPS?
voycie Posted June 22, 2018 Author Posted June 22, 2018 Hi Docc... yes thats all I done, left the vent and overflows open. I havent done any tune up yet as i dont have the kit. Ive booked the bike in for a tune up at a MG specialist called Baldricks in London next month. Was hoping for a quick way of getting it in better tune just so I can use it before it goes in. However maybe I ought to learn myself! Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
voycie Posted June 22, 2018 Author Posted June 22, 2018 Ok I know I really ought to do this myself. Ive bought a cable...http://lonelec.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=51. Ill download guzzidiag and make up the manometer Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
docc Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Welldone, Sir! I see you have already been linked to the pinned Diagnostic Cables thread that differentiates the three cables including the TPS breakout harness from Caspers.
