Weegie Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Nothing connected with the question but I replaced the OEM braided lines on my Hi Cam with new HEL lines and the difference in lever travel was a lot larger than I expected. The old lines, though braided, were obviously expanding a little so fluid being moved was expanding the lines and not moving the pads. That resulted in the lever at "full panic" was just touching the bars, now I recokon it's at least an inch clear. The feel is also much better, prior to installing the new lines the brakes felt a bit wooden and it was hard to judge how much braking force was being applied. Just thought I'd mention it
Weegie Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 I'm in the UK so I don't know about their availability in the US. Here's the web site https://www.helperformance.com/ It looks from the site like they do have US distribution and a lot of other countries. I'm not making out they're the ultimate in brake lines, Goodridge, Earls and all the others will be just as good, perhaps better. They do have kits for some Guzzis but I couldn't see the V11 listed. When I replaced the lines on my Australia, I removed the existing lines, measured them, noted the the banjo type (diameter and angle) and ordered identical custom lines. One thing I do like about the HEL lines is the banjo can be rotated on the line with a wrench which results in a neater install and prevents the line from being twisted to make the M/C and caliper banjos fit onto their respective bolts. 1
GuzziMoto Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 I believe Spiegler also allows you to rotate the fitting with a tool they include. There are a number of quality brake lines available. The stock lines appear to be of high quality. Not sure how much of the difference noted was line expansion and how much of it was new clean fluid with no air. 2

The lines had been bled out completely before and I still had the lever coming further back than I would've liked, but I take the point. It could also be something to do with replacing 25 year old lines, or the newer lines having a smaller internal diameter, I don't know. But both back and front brake action improved dramtically
al_roethlisberger Posted March 26, 2023 Author Posted March 26, 2023 So, did the 1200 Sport have linked front & rear brakes? It looks like the 1200 Sport uses the same Brembo Gold calipers up front as the V11 Sport, and has a metal reservoir master cylinder for both the front brake and clutch. It appears to be 16mm https://www.stein-dinse.biz/product_info.php?language=sc&products_id=6319 https://www.stein-dinse.biz/images/product_pdf/978606.pdf Here is the clutch side. Need to check the piston size to see if that is compatible with what was on the V11. https://www.stein-dinse.biz/product_info.php?language=sc&products_id=13108 https://www.stein-dinse.biz/images/product_pdf/ap8106713.pdf

Look here: https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1200/1200Sport8V_2008_PL(GB).pdf Page 23 shows the brake lines for the hand lever. Page 34 for the foot brake. That doesn't look like "system integrale" to me. 1

Thanks, yep page 23 makes it pretty clear that this era of Sport/Griso etc did not have linked brakes, and their front master cylinder operated both front brakes So being 16mm, this master cylinder should work fine ..ignoring for a moment any other fitment challenges that may arise. Now I just have to do a little research to see if its matching clutch master cylinder is compatible with the V11 master cylinder as well.
al_roethlisberger Posted March 27, 2023 Author Posted March 27, 2023 Regarding the clutch master cylinder, it appears the V11 diameter is 13mm, while the metal master cylinder version for the 1200 Sport, Griso, etc is 12mm. So that may not work.
