Guest captain nemo Posted March 1, 2004 Posted March 1, 2004 Guzzisti, Here's a diagnostic question for you: I went out for a hard 100 mile spin yesterday. The streets were wet and it was drizzling. When I started out, all of my recent work to the back lights were functioning - turn signals, brake lights and running lights in back. Now, half way into my ride I notice the turn signals are not working. I further find that my rear running light is out and my license plate light is out. My rear brake light still works. My new turn signals ground themselves on their own brackets to the frame - no return ground. OK, I check the fuses - all good. I replace the turn signal flasher unit - does not help. I check the relays and they are all working. All other lights in front and dash and all other systems are fine. So, I think maybe when it dries out we will try again. No doing. It does not work. So now I start tearing into the wiring. There are some spliced pieces, but they are soldered well. I see that the ground to the engine block is tight. I tightened down the terminals to the battery - did not help. I take the battery out, the tank off, my mods off, and start tracing lines and tearing off shrink wrap. Now the only thing I can see is millions of lines leading past the cylinder heads. It all looks like good factory work at this point. I surmise that my ground cables are OK because I see they are leading to other things that work. Where do I go from here? Going any further is not for the weak of heart. My only suspects are a yellow line and an orange line that lead from some of my bad stuff in back to the front. I have no other guess or plan of action. Can anybody help? Also, didn't someone recently put up a clear wiring diagram in English here? Does anyone know the link to it? Thanks in advance. I'm stuck now. Too bad too, because I just got the Guzz back from the Dyno and I have a lot to talk about.....all I want to do now is RIDE. DAMN.
Guest captain nemo Posted March 1, 2004 Posted March 1, 2004 Just had a thought.....there is a red/white wire that runs from the flasher to the fuse panel. This wire runs under the fuse for flashers! Sounds good. Now, I noticed that both the flasher and my poor fuse box is open from underneath and got wet because I haven't had time to seal under my bike where it gets very wet. Can water alone stop these two things until they are VERY dry. I looked at the wire from end to end and they seem to be anchored OK in both the flasher unit and the fuse box. But that wire is a leading suspect. What could be wrong?
