It is not only COTA; DORNA is also milking us profusely.

Austin has also gone mad.... I usually go to the SXSW each year, and I have seen how the prices have just increased exponentially. Madness...

It's not the ticket prices, it's the rip off when you're there.  No food or drink allowed, no general seating on practice days, etc.   I'm used to Indy and road courses where you bring a picnic and cooler or even camp on the grounds.  Sorry but COTA sucks.  The track and racing is great and almost worth it.

When they take a 5 year old's PBJ when daddy took him from California to get there, well screw 'em.

So far as Austin, it's not the same since they closed the Armadillo.  I think I already posted that.

You did post about the Armadillo. I am partial to Antone's myself. Closed as well.

The Houston Rodeo and Live Stock show has similar restrictions about food or drinks. And since they search every bag at the entrance, they even remove water...

And I have also had some issues bringing my cameras at some venues. If you have removable lenses, you need to pay for a license. Even if non professional photographer. They judge you by the equipment.

You can only bring a fixed lens camera with you. No profit is too small nowadays....

You're right about the camera.  COTA has restrictions too.  Luckily my Tamron 70-300 (450 APS-c equiv), sneaks through when it folds down.  I suppose they think it's a portrait or short focal lens?

OTOH, the best vantage is the south bridge where the goons will run you out on Friday morning.  So I got about 5 minutes for the entire weekend to get my photos.  I have to confess, I really don't like the management team at COTA.

The removable lens madness has spread. The last time I was at the International Dallas Guitar Festival, they also made my life difficult because of my camera bag. I was only able to keep my Fujifilm X100.

Nowadays, anything that is not a phone is considered professional grade photography.

I don't carry big cameras to concerts.  I like to watch the show and not lug around a big camera.  Also don't want to bother other concertgoers.

But, I have a Lumix ZS100.  It's a little bigger than a cigarette pack.   With that little one inch sensor, the reach is full frame equivalent of 250mm.  It's got 20 odd megapixels but is a little hit and miss in the results.  It works OK in automode, not so much in the others (although I found some tweak settings on forum that helps).  The key is to have a ready exposure compensation control which I've programmed to the lens ring.  It's usually best to under expose those shots because the background is dark and subject is brightly lit, sometimes in the spot light.  Not only so you get the right exposure, it also shortens the shutter speed and reduces blur.

You're Fuji is a fixed lens APS-C?  Much bigger sensor for higher quality photos suited for more close up and portrait stuff.  It might be a challenge unless you have great seats.  The little Lumix is a good travel camera that I took for a month long trip to Europe.

Dear, me! Between that shot of Van-the-Man and Neuschwanstein Castle, I think we should have a dedicated photography thread!  :pic:

The guy singing was Johnny Depp.

The little camera is small and versatile.  But for the racing shots the APS-C with a big lens is the way to go.  Makes a 300mm tele think it's 450.

I kinda thought so (and that shot is outstanding, BTW!), but wasn't aware he does vocals.

Really nice photography, LowRyter!

It's best to post photos in a motorcycle forum for complements but don't expect complements in photography forums.  :bbblll:

In my experience, photographers (even more than musicians) can be determined lone-wolf creatives with little patience or latitude for aspiring enthusiasts.  <_<

All specialist communities can have this attribute.  "What's a small and puny ant like you hanging around Muscles Mahoney's gym, anyway ?" You can almost hear the the suspenders *snap*. :oldgit:

Welcome to V11LeMans.com. Check out the "Tube Amps!" thread and tip your server . . .
