R.I.P. Mikko Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I would love a pair of custom Daytona boots. They are the pinnacle of motorcycle boots and depending on the model, could very well last you for as long as you’d like. Plus you can custom order them in just about any color combo you can think of. For the record, I wear Vanson competition weight leathers and the GP armor, plus Vanson gauntlet gloves. I bought my first and only Vanson and it was custom made for me a very long time ago. Not to hijack threads... but I wanted to throw these guys in the mix because they are truly world class plus American made. And I wear a Bell Carbon Fiber Race Star Helmet. Good night!!! 1
Kane Posted August 3, 2020 Author Posted August 3, 2020 That’s great! At the end of May as a birthday gift to myself I took advantage of the sale that Vanson is running and ordered a set of their Sportrider jacket and pants. I did the whole custom measurements chart, and Kim at Vanson was really great to deal with. I don’t expect to see them for awhile as it sounds like right now they’re putting a lot of resources into making PPE. Nonetheless, I am very excited. What is the GP armor? Is that the standard armor that Vanson puts in their jackets and pants?
R.I.P. Mikko Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 No, this is the race level hard stuff. I have the spine protector too. Vanson Armor It’s a good feeling knowing you’ve done what you can to save your ass should things go sideways. Kim is the same lady that helped me 25+ years ago. And if you ever get a chance, look them up on YouTube. There is a documentary about them and it’s really neat. I’d love to go wander around in there for an afternoon.
Cali1100i Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I have two pairs of Daytonas. Pair 1 are very old but still just about serviceable. BMW GSA pegs played havoc with the soles. My bad. Now have the GTX Daytonas which get occasional use on the ST1300. A truly excellent boot. Now, a "left-field" boot that I recently bought, and after some research, is the Altberg Hogg . Altberg make boots for the British Army and Police. The Hogg is their paratrooper lace-up boot, with motorcycling additions. Not sure if made in Italy or England or both. I usually wear these on my Guzzis. They are very well made and I feel secure in them. The standard Hoggs extend well above the ankle. Cost about Euro 220 two years ago. Not bad at all. 1 1

Cali1100i Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 If you order, go a half size larger than you would normally use. 1
audiomick Posted November 17 Posted November 17 I've been planning for months (years?) to get a custom made pair of these. https://www.daytona.de/de/Stiefel/Uebersicht/Uebersicht-Auswahl/Classic-Oldtimer In September I actually saw someone wearing them, and was able to get confirmation that they are, at least for him, a very good boot. Custom because I need it. I don't really bother going to normal shoe shops here anymore, because they never have anything that fits. Depending on the brand, I need a 39 or 40. At least half of the shops here don't stock anything smaller than a 40, some of them not smaller than 41. My feet are very short. To make it complicated, they are also very wide for the length, with very high arches. So even if the shop has a shoe the right length, it will most likely be too narrow. The last time I tried to try on motorcycle boots in a shop here in Germany, I couldn't get in to a single one that was even approximately the right size. What I am using for riding at the moment is mostly lucky finds of ex-army boots that I found at flea-markets. The accessory shop here in Leipzig that I prefer to go to has Daytona. I really must find out if they can take fittings for custom boots. Given the difficulty of finding something that fits, I don't really give a toss what they cost. What I have read in the German forums, however, gives the impression that the boots last very, very well, and the manufacturer will repair them as needed. 1
guzzler Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Mate, they are very very well made. They are also what they say WATERPROOF, only time I've had wet feet was when I had leathers tucked into the boots so the water ran down leathers and into the top of the boot. Put the wet weather pants over boots and no wet feet...simple. I've had mine for 8 years or so and still reckon they'll see me out..... Cheers 1
