GuzziMoto Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I hope that is good news. Around here most Guzzi dealers keep their doors open by selling a mainstream brand or two. Guzzi is almost always a side show brand.
docc Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 If Guzzi is the Side Show, what does that make us? 1 1

biesel Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 The reason is the shitty Piaggio Guzzi portfolio. No dealer can survive with this! 1

For a long time Ducati was in the same boat, Ducati was a brand that successful mainstream dealerships sold as a side show. Now Ducati is a mainstream brand..... 2
gstallons Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 What is bad , Ducati sells superbikes that only a dozen people have any business riding and a credit card devoted to routine maintenance . I don't know if Ducati sells anything tame or a daily rider . 2
LowRyter Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 The Ducati Scrambler is a mild manner daily commuter. Several other models are standard, like the Monster, Hypermotard, Multi Strada, Diavale or my Supersport.

Based on what I've seen transpire in my area in the last two decades, the "big" mfg's are not allowing dealers of their product to include other marques in the same building. In Indy, I've witnessed HD and BMW be directed by the mfg to display ONLY their product or lose it. Indy's best BMW dealer, Revard, who built a stand alone building, was not allowed to put another brand in the same room. They could not survive. Most recently the former Triumph dealership (Falcone) had to part ways with Triumph because they were required to provide a separate building. Said dealer had already built a new, separate building just for, and per BMW requirements. He's now out of business and Indiana has no BMW dealer. The newest Triumph dealer in town (Triumph of Indianapolis), people with whom I'm acquainted and have done work for, have said Triumph requires them to sell only Triumph, IF they want prioritized pricing and a full range (and numbers) of motorcycles. I encouraged them to take on Guzzi and they said the wish they could. Great folks btw https://triumphindianapolis.com/ so good luck TLM. Likely his good standing in the area will be beneficial.
gstallons Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 The US dealerships are enslaved to the manufacturers . New buildings , near the interstate , a required # of staff , etc . IDK how sellers survive ?

That is a very disturbing trend. One that doesn't bode well for small brands like Guzzi, Royal Enfield, and even Aprilia. But it sounds like it also doesn't bode well for larger brands if they simply can't meet the requirements. To have a city as large as Indy lose its BMW dealer, that is crazy. Are you saying that was the only BMW dealer in the state? Holy moly! I am not sure that was the outcome BMW expected. I have been to that dealer I believe, on the way to and from the track from downtown.
footgoose Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 BMW motorcycles was recently picked up by a car dealer (Tom Wood) that also has a power sports room. They have locations in several states. I think the BMW's in the Indianapolis store are brought in from their 'real' dealerships elsewhere to fill the void. They will likely have to provide a dedicated showroom. I don't see them doing that anywhere near that location, a high priced area. Falcone (that would have been the Speedway dealer you visited) was also a car dealer that got into bikes. He's back to just cars.
Admin Jaap Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 A reputable BMW dealer (for almost 50 years!) in my neck of the woods also is dealer for the 4 Japanese brands (and ZERO electric bikes) BMW forced them to build a mega showroom or at least use the full front shop window for their bikes only. They refused and decided to quit BMW. They still sell them though, and the workshop still has two BMW specialists. They just made a deal with the next BMW dealer. Their new wharehouse staff though... I once asked for a M8 x 40 hex bolt. Their reply: 'What bike and year?' 2
