cash1000 Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Went to check the oil level in VII and found stick had fallen off dipstick! Luckily it had jammed in Pete's surge plate rather than bounce around and cause damage This was the first thing I changed when I purchased the VII. Original plastic one was useless. Hard to read and differcult to screw in. Anyway I'm in the market for a new dipstick if anyone has one for sale 2
80CX100 Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Tks for sharing that photo, that sucks; I'll make sure to never buy one of those. Can't help you with the dipstick, but to keep you going in the mean time; I've never done it myself, but I've read of owners drilling a few tiny holes in the plastic dipstick to help hold the oil and show the level better. fwiw ymmv good luck

If you have a roper plate then fill the engine until the oil level is at the bottom of the plate( look through the fill hole with a torch, easy to see) then dip the std stick in until it stops, dont screw it in. Then remove it and see where the oil level is on the stick and drill a 1.5mm hole in the stick at the indicated level. Easy to do and easy to now see the full level. Ciao 2

gstallons Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Take a hammer and put a ding in the rod about 1/4'' from the end of the rod and press it back into the bore of the cap .

Or you could do it the right way and fit it back in with some green "super bearing mount" loctite and it'll never come out again. Ciao 2 1
