DougInMA Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I have a 2000 V11 Sport and I'm looking to upgrade my suspension with Race Tech springs. I've visited their website, but saw nothing listed for MG. I searched for a 900 Monster, which used the 40mm Marzocchis in '96 and '97, but they only have the 41mm Showa listed. I sent Race Tech an e-mail, but have not heard anything back. I know some here have gone this route, could someone point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a direct replacement for the forks and rear shock but with a higher k value. Any feedback would be appreciated. Doug
Mike Stewart Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Doug, Give LE a call, check out their web site. Just go with springs, I did the whole revalve and respring and I was not happy with it. I ended up replacing the Zokes with a set of Ohlins forks to correct the problem. You can send them the forks to have it done (recommended) or do it your self (if you have the tools). http://www.le-suspension.com/index.html# Good luck, Mike
docc Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Doug, what do you weigh? I'm interested in swapping springs front and back as well. Keep us posted what you learn.
Guest vkerrigan Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Ken Zeller @ Evoluzione in Simi Valley, Ca is also an excellent resource for this. He provided a set of Race Tech springs for my 02 LeMans which made a huge improvement for me. I believe the springs were for a 900 SS. I weigh about 225 w gear and we went with a 1.0 spring rate. His web site is www.evoluzione.com. Although most of his emphasis is on Ducati, he does have a great deal of experience with the V11 (I believe he has a Tenni project bike). Good Luck and Happy Trails......vk
DougInMA Posted March 19, 2004 Author Posted March 19, 2004 Thanks for the feedback... I'll send out some e-mails this weekend and see what comes back. I weigh 185 and according to Race Tech's calculator, I can use anything from .85 to 1.0 springs for the forks. I'll update when I have the complete picture. Thanks again. Doug
Guest WildJackal Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Any update on springs? What weight oil are you using with the heavier springs? I'd like to get heavier springs but I'm waiting for some positive feedback before I pull the trigger. Thanks
Willyz Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 What ever happened with this? I want to change/upgrade my springs/oil while I am fixing a leaking fork seal and no one can seem to tell me where/what springs to get. I get answers from "use FZ1 springs" to "I dunno, just send them in and we'll take care of them". I want to do them myself. Sheesh, I can't seem to even find what fork seals I need. Can anyone provide specific parts/numbers/sources? I may try Ken at Evoluzione next. Maybe its just me....... ;-) Willy 01 Rosso
Guest WildJackal Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 LOL. Tag, you're it Willyz. Please keep us informed with what you find out.
andy york Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I just put a set of Traxxion springs in my 02 LeMans. I went with the 1.10 springs. Since I am about 225 on a good day plus gear, plus bike weight, I went with heavy springs.I made my preload spacers 135mm and used 7.5 wieght synthetic fork oil. All of this is a good thing except now I feel the short comings in the rear shock.Need a Penske or Ohlins on the back. Front preload is a matter of taste. I started with 20mm of sag and 145mm spacers. This was a bit much so I trimmed the spacers down 10mm to 135mm. Now I have about 25mm of sag. Compresion and rebound work good now.I think I remember about 16 rounds of adjustment on each fork leg.compression set at 7 ,rebound set at 10 (from full soft.) Unless your seals are leaking leavem alone andy
dbdicker Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 For another great source for aftermarket tuning, springs etc.......I recommend Pro Pilot in New Jersey. They are ohlins specialists but will do anything you want and are racers themselves. They are the most knowledgable I've found on the East Coast.
Guest WildJackal Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I hate to always be the one asking stupid questions ... why do you need spacers? Are the springs too short? Can you buy the spacers? Andy, did you leave the rear shock spring stock? Would getting a heavier rear spring help handling?
andy york Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 As I replied, you need a spacer to set spring preload. If you pull each of your fork legs apart, one of the first things to come out will be a spacer of some length. It may be pvc or some other material. Chances are if you go to a stiffer staight rate spring,it will be shorter, hence the need to make a longer spacer. there is no magic to spring preload...whatever works for you. Preload:you are putting a small amount of load on the springs before you add the weight of bike and rider. it really is easy . The hard part,as well as time consuming is dialing in and making changes to get it just right andy
andy york Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 oops! yes I will be going to a heavier rear spring andy
