big unit Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Which oil is best for the 6 speed gearbox. Synthetic or non synthetic oil. Cheers.
jrt Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Oh, so it's the oil thread, is it? Is there a 'tear your hair out' smilie? Any oil is good oil. I've got hundreds of thousands of miles on plain, cheap-a$$ gear lube. I've got a bunch of miles on Mobil 1 and I've heard/read people swear by Redline. Synthetics generally have better wear properties and those with molydisulfide have better lubricity. How cheap are you? If your cheap, use anything and if you're not cheap, use synthetic. Just my opinion. J
tikkanen Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Hi! The subject has also been up the Danish Moto Guzzi Club. Please check the link below (it's in English http://www.friforum.dk/Moto_Guzzi/topic.as..._Title=Friforum Best regards Søren Tikkanen, Denmark
docc Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 The plastic bearing cage warning has come up before but I recall it applies only to the 5-speed. The 6-speed comes with synthetic ( at least the 2000 Sport did). It only holds 850 ml so you'd have to be really cheap to want to save three or four dollars. Although, with what you saved on oil over the life of your Guzzi you could buy a bottle of Laphroig, and invite a friend over to help you tear down your gearbox.
