Future of Griso Ghetto up in the air......

Yesterday I received the news that Steve 'Steak' Daley, owner/manager/whatever of the Ghetto died in a boating accident in Oregon over the weekend.

Apart from obviously being tragic, (I've known Steve a long time. He was one of the good guys.) it does throw the future of the Ghetto up in the air. Hopefully someone will be able to take over the day to day running of the site and keep it up as it is a very useful resource for ALL CARC bike owners and especially 8V's.

This is really just a heads up to anybody who references the Ghetto for tech stuff by myself, Beetle and others knowledgeable on the models should perhaps cut and paste any required info for safekeeping in case the board goes tits up.

This is really a sad day, the tragic loss of the owner/founder of the Ghetto first and foremost but also the prospect of losing the invaluable trove of technical knowledge and information assembled there over all these years.

I’ve been a member there since 2017 after I got my first Guzzi, a Griso and although I rarely posted, being new to the marque and to forums in general, I got to learn so much just reading from all the knowledgeable folks there. It inspired me and gave me confidence to perform all maintenance on my bike and I was always able to find answers to my questions with a simple search through the forum.

I really hope someone will be able to pick-up the baton and preserve the forum for Steve/‘Steak’ legacy and the future of the Griso community.

I'm sorry hearing of the untimely death in the Guzzi community.  I didn't know the gentleman or his website.   Hopefully the website will continue or perhaps the combined into another.

Sympathies to the his family and loved ones.

Sorry to hear that news.

I've heard good things about that site, but never looked closely as I don't have a Griso. But it looks like I missed a good resource for my Stelvio... I do hope the site gets maintained.

That is sad news.

Over the years, I've learned lots from that forum, hope that it somehow continues on.

Condolences and prayers for the family & friends of Mr Daley

That's really sad news... Griso owner Biesel contacted me if it was possible to integrate the griso ghetto forum in v11lemans.com. I told him it would be a hell of a job and possibly undoable. I offered him to make a subforum with all the trimmings for Griso-Ghetto members. But migrating all the content would be too much of a task, if possible.

I used to work as a front end user, on a variety of data bases, some with relational capabilities that were amazing, simple, functional platforms. I've also  watched as conversion/data transfer projects on major records entry systems, ballooned from ten$ of million$ to hundred$ of million$, and in the end they never did function properly.

I know there are some amazingly brilliant, computer savvy guzzisti, but website forums, I'm guessing are an extremely specialized niche of expertise; it's not just the set up, it's also the baby sitting and the maintenance.

I know Beetle has a financial interest in Griso fanatics having a home base, but I don't know if he would have the expertise, time or inclination; hopefully someone does.

Right at the moment most of us who knew Steve are in shock and I'm certainly not going to contact his girlfriend to pester her about the forum.

I would add that Mark, (Beetle.) has his own site at Griso.org, his contributions to the Ghetto have no financial benefit. Unlike certain other places the Ghetto isn't, and never has been a money making platform for anybody.

I'm sure that eventually we, the membership, will be able to sort something out. I'd like to offer to run it myself as I'm retiring soon and it might give me something to do besides wallowing in the millions I make from my midget porn empire. Problem is I'm both computer illiterate and such an intolerant bastard I'd of banned everyone in a week!:bbblll::D

Yep, I have contacted Jaap because I know him from the German Bodensee Treffen a long time ago ;)

Owning a V11 Lemans before the Griso and knowing this forum, I thought adding Griso content would make sense if technical possible and if necessary.

1) That could be interesting, so the scope here would essentially expand to include the sporty CARC bikes? Which could mean your own 1200 Sport. :race:

2) Yeah that could be a huge task, and you'd have to deal with the transfer of personal information. If you do go down that road, there might be a member who'd be willing to act as a Griso moderator and copy over the main technical topics. But even that would be time consuming and require a lot of filtering.
