Freedom Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Hi All, I noticed an oil leak on my bike last week as I rode my bike to work and had some oil on my boots and the bottom of my pants - on the right side only. I have attached pictures, as you can see the gasket looks messed up. My question is will changing gaskets fix the problem? https://imgur.com/dvTwzYH https://imgur.com/SfZLjUJ https://imgur.com/UbmYObU Sorry, bit of a luddite here, I couldn't figure out how to post pictures so I posted links.
Tomchri Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Get Valpolini head cover gaskets, problem gone. Is MG cycle a resource in the US ? otherwise I get them from Valpolini in Italy. Cheers Tom. 2 1

docc Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Isn't this the correct metal gasket from MGCycle? And we have confirmed they can be reused? https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=170_174&products_id=4634 3
docc Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I gotta get-me some o' them to replace my very thin ,original, green composites. @Freedom, be diligent not to overtighten the valve covers and tighten in steps using a "star pattern." 1
Freedom Posted September 20, 2022 Author Posted September 20, 2022 Thanks for posting those pictures docc. So those gaskets should do it? Ialmost ordered a couple before I posted here. Thanks 1

docc Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Yeah, those are the green OEM composite that many call "paper." I didn't learn until recently that the metal-core gaskets for the 2-valve 1200 fit our square fin. No doubt, the metal-core gaskets are the best and most durable available. Of course they are double the money. Almost $12US instead of $6.50. 1
LowRyter Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Sorry about reading this but I'm glad not to be alone.
