I never had a bike without a center stand, sure makes it harder to perform service. What is a paddock stand I can consider? I can harness the front end to a truss and raise it off the floor for front end work, but the rear has to be stabilized to do that. Tires and fluids are first on the list. Blown away that the front tire is original...and the ad said good rubber. That was some BS.  I'll do a search but a shop manual is also first on the list, so I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

@activpop,  be certain to use the Parts Catalog for V11 1999-2001 Sport/Rosso Mandello.  I have found it very useful to buy a hard copy from an ebay seller as an adjunct to the online parts sources.

I use ratchet-straps on my handle bars, attached to the garage joist. I also use a car jack for stabilizing. When I recently did the front fork seals, I actually cradled the bike under a ladder with ratchet-straps!

There isn't anything special about a Guzzi as far as stands go. There is that model specific stand that Guzzi sold, I believe they called it a

central stand. Item #6 in the parts catalog under Tools image.png

Not sure if you can still get that workshop stand.

But most any generic stands will work. Some stands require bobbins be added to the rear swing arm, that requires additional work. That one is just a cheap stand, not one I specifically use. The ones I use are old and no longer sold. If I were buying one today I would probably buy a stand from PitBull, as they are a quality brand. But they are twice what a cheapy stand will cost you. On the bright side, not only are they better designed and built than the cheapy stands but they are modular so you can upgrade it later to spools if you add spools to the swing arm. Spools will be more secure.

BECKER TECHNIK  makes a nice workshop stand for the V11, it clamps onto the lower bolts of the side plates(“pork chops”) and is very secure and safe.

My bike came with the original MG stand and the pork chops were all chewed up as a result of its repeated (mis?)use.

No chance of that with the BT as it uses two 1/2 drive - 18mm sockets to locate the holding pins onto the nuts and locks into place. Once clamped-on, you use it pretty much like a regular centerstand. You can also use a 1/2 in. drive breaker bar to aid into lifting/lowering the bike. I only find it necessary for lowering the bike when the front wheel is held by the chock and the bike cannot roll forward freely.

And unlike the MG stand, it doesn’t have a long handle that sticks out the side, an added bonus when used on the lift where that long handle juts overboard and has to be propped up.

The Becker Technik stand can be had from Stein-Dinse for quite a bit cheaper... that’s where I got mine, 19% VAT deducted from final price when shipped outside the EU and about $30 in shipping.

Bundle it up with miscellaneous parts you might need and it makes the shipping from Germany worthwhile.

I’ve placed a few order from SD and I’ve always received the goods in 3 to 5 days!! It’s as if they have their own airplanes or something..

  Is the real thing still obtainable?

Unknown. I thought the Workshop Manual had a part number of its own, but I'm not seeing it. 

Maybe from an eBay seller or a member here has an extra?

There is a story to this bike and i wont get the straight story from the seller, that's  for sure. He bought it 4/08, per bill of sale, and the title is dated 3/09, but the title is still in the original sellers name. The mileage typed in on the front of the title says 9843, but written in on the back where it when it was transferred is 11,283. Registration expired in 2015, so how did my seller register it without a title in his name? I dont have a clue. 

And even more bewildering is the title says 2004 bike, but both VIN and you guys say it is a 2001, which I agree with. How did that happen? Don't have a clue. Front tire is from 2004 so that is maybe just a coincidence, with the milage on this bike idk if it was changed after just three years of minimal riding, but could have been a road hazard. DMV says I am good to go with my bill of sale which I have. They will retitle and register it for me with normal fees. I will ask them about the year though.

A lot of questions about this thing but it sure is pretty. Hopefully getting it for $2700 will soften the pain of any surprises.

Over here in the Netherlands (and other EU-countries) a bike can be produced in 2001 and then be for sale for some years. The dealer can register the bike when sold. So if this takes until 2005, that will be the first registration date in the papers of the bike.

I have a bike that was used as press-demo at the factory (so they say at least). Production was 2001 and registration in 2005, leaving the factory directly to a new owner.
