You've got it exactly right. I believe only the original red framed, pre-Aprilia Sports have the V11Sport sticker on the tailpiece.

Just bought a used 2002 LeMans. A great bike! It has the factory cannisters and chip plus a Corbin Gel seat. The PO broke it in real nice, no vibration to speak of and very fast. Thanks Moto Guzzi for my type of bike!
