I've got photos but it's just broken pieces and the broken pin.  I don't know about getting the parts or anything else.  As busted as it is, surprising that it rode as good as it did.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. Want The Kid's phone number? Oh, never mind.. He and Nora are on vacation. :luigi: Hell, it's just a machine. Fix it or have it fixed. They aren't making any more of them.

Chuck, no complaints here.  Bev has been slowly getting better with her knee replacement but it hasn't been easy.  So far as recalls, Don's shop is a dealer, and he's supposed to check.

So far as the bike?  I was talking to top mechanic Doug (I screwed my Ducati, another story).  He told me I was lucky to have killed the bike and brought it because it would've killed me.  He said the gearbox could easily have come apart and locked up at speed.  Gulp.

Besides the bearings, the deal with the pins is another kettle of fish.  Apparently Guzzi had changed out the access door on my bike and the newer door has pins machined in.  Besides the broken one, the one on the bottom is leaking.  They're going to make threaded pins, use some adhesive to keep them in place and silicone the other one.

In regard to my Duc.  I was riding it and the ABS light comes on.  I see that the bolt holding the sensor had fallen out.  I'm on the floor in the dark garage and find a longer bolt in my stash.  I didn't realize the receiver was open ended, I bent the ABS ring tightening the bolt.  Somehow, I also hurt my knee and lower leg getting up and down on the garage floor, been taking muscle relaxers about 50% better.

Then the Doc office called just now from my appointment last week and wants to pile on more old guy's meds.  I'm tired of that quack.  New pills on top of old pills that didn't work?

Heck of a last few days.  OK, if you have an early red frame, watch your gearbox.  Don't work in a dark garage.  Don't be a dumbass like me.

OK, finally got the gearbox out and apart.   As I reported elsewhere here, they've ordered new Temken cage bearings.  The crux of the problems was one of the retainers came loose from one of the gears on the secondary shaft.  The gear was grinding into the side cover and etched a nice ring.  They said a lot crap was in the bottom of the case.  We assume that all those shavings took out the bearings.  They haven't disassembled the gear set yet because they had to order a tool to remove one of the retainers.  So far it looks good, but we won't know it's taken apart and inspected.  

The special hair spring that I purchased here will be installed when the transmission goes back together.  

Another thing I might try are some new clutch springs.  Someone, locally I believe, has come with better clampin but smoother and light action springs.  I was told that it would make the clutch lever, although I don't how that's possible.  

Hopefully that bike will be on the road in the next couple of weeks. 

There's a silver Sport in the shop too.  It belongs to one of younger techs.  The gearbox is removed on that one too.  Mine will be a teaching example for him.

oooh. my.  I see I wrote about he Duc here too.  It needed a new ABS pump as well as the radiator.  The pump is $3k new, found take off for $60.  So for the radiator, a new shiny aluminum Chinese radiator for $185.  

The bike was within a few hundred miles of the 36k service so the labor costs were only marginally more.  Less than buying a pair of tires.

I will say it was disappointing but it could've been worse. I've put a little more that 1,000 miles since the repair.  EBay and internet can be your friends.  As well as a local tech shop that'll work on Guzzis and Ducs.

We had on in recently that had done the same thing with the retainer nuts on the intermediate shafts. The nuts and lock washers are standard SKF items. SKF can supply a socket for tightening/removing them as well but I have a complete set for all the Tonti/V11/CARC nuts made for me by Rolf Halverson twenty or more years ago. They’ve been a godsend. Michael has inherited them now.

I think they are MK or MB nuts or washers. I’ve got a link somewhere, I’ll see if I can post it up? Bear with me, I’m in NZ on holiday at the moment.

Does SKF offer sockets for these nuts ? NVM , I found them. They are found under tools. They are hook spanners .
