As of august, 2004, @Paul Minnaert had reported four of these failures. Bad production run? Unknowable. Yet it seems that if the problem affected all of the V11 aluminum flywheels, we would have seen about two failures every year for the last twenty years. :huh2:

The aluminum flywheels cracking are not dissimilar to the stamped steel A.T. flywheels   in vehicles. These are prone to cracking and bust the centers out.

I got the flywheel out of my RM crack tested last year.

No cracks found.

Bikes done at least 88k (2nd speedo)

Did some of the 2002 models have aluminum flywheels or did all 2002 models have aluminum flywheels?

@Steve Swan, only the Tenni and Scura of 2002.

Also, the 2001 Rosso Mandello.

Hello fellow enthusiasts….closing in on 70 years so more a collector than a rider these days!…and moved to Guzzi from Laverda’s! Purchased a Tenni recently (photos to follow) Albeit bit of a Tech Luddite, will have to learn forum linking/sending photo’s etc.
Currently recommissioning the bike for the roads ‘down under’.
Continuing this thread as the Tenni’s previous owner said the flywheel/clutch are originals. Lurking and reading here made me aware of common faults including flywheel. And some owners adapting/fitting the RAM 5 speed clutch assembly because the crucial clutch hub is oem in Tenni/RM/Scura….all thanks to you guys…!
Stein Dinse helped to date with Guzzi parts but are now dissuading me from purchasing “Moto Guzzi Single disc clutch RAM - big models No. 200001620”. Checked with MG Cycle about Part Number MG1096620 but they said they are “unaware this 5 speed will work with a 6 speed”.
Should I go back to them or am I missing something?
Thanks for any help here as I realise this is a very tired old topic!

Just buy a 5 speed no flywheel pickup RAM kit from MGcycles in the states They are lightweight steel flywheel these days. The genuine RAM alloy units had no failure issues and I have one fitted to my bike. SD is too expensive. You will need to use your original gearbox input drive is all and check the pushrod details in the instructions on the MG website. Forget about converting to a dual plate clutch assy. Once you have ridden a bike with a single plater you'd never want to go back to a dual plate sidecar flywheel assembly.

Many thanks Lucky Phil for this advice!….Aussie dollar has ‘collapsed’ compared to the U.S.$ lately so why SD prices don’t look too bad!
Just to confirm for this V11 series novice, SD #200001620 and MG Cycle #1096620 RAM parts are the same kit?
Better images with bike back together will eventually follow….regards, Tennitragic.

Not sure if the SD clutch comes with the same friction disk. Ask SD if it has the MIBA friction disk and if it's the latest steel flywheel version. Make sure they do a physical check on the flywheel material, you know spare parts people. They know part numbers not actual things.

Cheers docc! Thanks to all who have been there before….MG Cycle appears to have what is needed…and not Stein Dinse from previous commentary.
