I have finally got Collector Status on my Balabio which gives me cheap(er) tax here in BC. So it is going back on the road after about 4 years of standing. Right now I am planning a fluids flush plus replacing the fuel filter and in tank hose. The tank is off and I am emptying out the old fuel/mush and cleaning that out and will do the brakes and clutch.
what else am I missing?  Tyres are new/5 yrs old. Brake pads are good.
also any suggestions on the in tank portion of this challenge gratefully received. I got past the dreaded QDF connectors to get the tank off, but the tank breather hose underneath is a bit tired so will replace that. Not sure on pump gasket but will find out shortly but does anyone do a complete kit for the pump hose, gasket and in tank filter?
Thanks.

Have a good look at all the rubber bits under the tank whilst it is off. That is, of course, a good idea for any bike that is a bit older and has been standing for a couple of years.

On the V11, a particularly close look at the breather hose that goes from under the frame up near the steering head down to the back end of the motor is to be recommended. ;)

Is she getting a new battery, @LangleyMalc?

A careful application of Caig DeOxit® to the connectors and connections while the tank is off is good medicine. Just don;t get it on the AMP connector seals (remove them for the application, wipe out the recesses and replace dry).

A good time to clean and service the main ground connection behind the seat latch and service the connections to the starter motor/solenoid.

What's under the seat for relays?

Thanks Guys,

a big help; particularly the tank off check list at the end.
anyone replaced the internal filter?

Bullet conectors from stator, make sure they have good connection, or even better make a solid connection. Go thru every connection with TLC.

Cheers Tom.

"Might" consider coating the tank to preserve the graphics. Unless they are already bubbled.

PLEASE run straight gasoline (no E-15 or anything like that ! Pricey , yes . Troubles , no. If you do this you may not have to coat the interior of the tank . While you have the tank off , remove  everything so the tank can breathe  and get all of the vapors out and get back into it's original shape . I assume your bike has an in-tank pump ?

Hi guys.
Tank is cleaned out and back on but I need a new battery. Yuasa YTX15L-bs is unobtanium up here. Also Odyssey PC545 out of stock, which I had last time and which did not last as well as the Yuasa. Anybody tried a NiFePo battery?

oh my, you came to the right place to talk about batteries!  I’ll not say anything except that there’s a wealth of info from PC545 guru’s on this site, and i’m  a believer, but I also have finally gone to the dark side and installed a Lithium battery, and can’t see every going back.  Thats a long, long topic, but fast-forwarding to the final thing for one side of the discussion is that the lithium battery (i think I put an EarthX in the V11) cranks the bike over better/quicker, and takes less space in the cradle, in theory allowing for easier road-side work if such a need would come up.

Can’t go wrong with an Odyssey, properly cared for, but I would not be afraid of a decent lithium battery.

Hello LangleyMalc

Not too long ago I also had to replace my second Odyssey in my 2004 Ballabio here in Metro Vancouver (part of my 20-year-old bike update), as it became unable to start the V11. I had good experiences with the Odyssey's (12 and 8+ years) but getting one here was weeks away, and I needed much sooner.

I decided to try find a Matgas locally to replace it, even if temporarily. The only one I could find locally of the same size and storage capacity at the time was a Moto Master Eliminator XD Power Sport ETX15L that was in stock (Canadian Tire) and of very recent manufacture date. Price was quite a bit less that Odyssey (around 150 Cdn).

The terminal configurations were wrong however I made up one heavy cable for the positive side to run to the group of cables that attach to positive. It worked out very nicely resulting in an installation that is much easier to install and remove the battery. The next time I will try plan ahead for an Odyssey. I may try find a terminal layout the same as this battery due to the convenience of the installation.

On another note, you should bring your Ballabio to one of the Moto Social monthly meets when they start again in May.  VANCOUVER - The Moto Social

There were several other v11's there during some of the 5 events last summer, one being a 2004 Lemans in red looking really nice, and my 04 Ballabio.

Thanks for the replies. Like you I also could not find an Odyssey or a Yuasa in YVR. Finally bit the bullet on an EarthX ETX12A as per gmc28. It is slightly smaller than the Odyssey or the Yuasa in one dimension (1” approx) and in CCA. It is 220cca vs 230cca for the other two. It also needs the right smart charger but I had one of those anyway and I don’t have to fiddle with the wiring as per Phillip. Finally it is the same price as the Odyssey on ebay.com. Only drawback is a trip to Point Roberts WA to collect it. (Free postage to the US even if PR is in Canada- perhaps we can get Donald to sell it to us. Property values will then tripple!).

I will try to make a Moto Social this year and may see Phillip there.

thx.

...Point Roberts WA ...PR is in Canada...

Having never heard of the place, I looked it up on Open Street Map. How bizarre. :huh2:

No affiliation other than being a long time customer but I’ve been buying products from Edmunds Batteries for years for all my vehicles

Several locations, fair prices and really good service, and they’ve always had Oddysey 545’s in stock when I needed one

FWIW
