A friend of mine had one. Parts were a nightmare even then, don't know about now. Most vivid memories was vibration and LOTS of mechanical noise from the engine. A mint one at the right price might be worth considering if you're into quirky Italian motorcycles that won't see too many miles. Phil

But back in those years, Ducatis won out. https://magazine.cycleworld.com/article/1984/10/1/laverda-rgs1000-corsa
p6x Posted December 10 Posted December 10 (edited) @activpop This one seems really nice; I don't remember having ever seen one with fairings, but grey? The production dates coincides with me getting my motorcycle license in 1973. The multibrand dealership where I purchased my first motorcycle had one for sale, if I remember well. I thought it looked great, but I was only interested in 2 strokes at the time. For some reason, all the Laverda I ever saw were orange... Edited December 10 by p6x
gstallons Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I was around one and one only . Orange w/just enough parts on it to run. Flat plane crankshaft triple and it was bad to the bone ! It looked like the one in the upper photo . I gave my buddy bad advice and told him he should get rid of it , parts would be scarce . I wish I had kept my mouth shut .

guzzigary Posted December 10 Posted December 10 (edited) That seems like a well loved and sorted machine, IMO fairly priced Never seen an RGS in that silver/gray colour but looks classy Edited December 10 by guzzigary 1
Lucky Phil Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I'm sure wondering about the length of that cam chain tensioner adjustment bolt. Doesn't look stock to me which leaves questions, maybe. Spares are the issue and it's the sort of bike where specialised bespoke parts were used unique to that bike. Brakes and suspension are all easy but body stuff ,instruments and engine are the question. The earlier Jota series naked bikes would be a lot easier with regards to parts. Phil 2
audiomick Posted December 10 Posted December 10 (edited) Yes, but... I remember reading a test of the RGS 1000 back in the day, and thinking "I want one of those". For someone who wants one of those, that one looks pretty good. EDIT: 15 minutes ago, Lucky Phil said: I'm sure wondering about the length of that cam chain tensioner adjustment bolt. guzzler Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I watch the Laverda forum here and Redax in Qld seems to be a pretty good source of Laverda expertise.... Cheers 1
pete roper Posted December 11 Posted December 11 I did some work on them back in the day. The one that’s for sale is an RGS which had the 120 degree crank, they were considerably smoother than the earlier SF1000’s and Jotas which used a 180 degree crank and, as you would expect, to use the words of one journalist of the time, vibrated about one and a half times as much as a Triumph Boneville! The 180’s were a beast at the time though. Fastest production model in the world and the first ‘Genuine’ 130MPH motorcycle you could buy! Terrifying at anywhere near that speed but they made a fantastic noise and if you put noisy moron pipes on them you could set off car alarms by ‘Giving them the berries’ around Clapham Common near the shop I worked at. The main source of spares for them now is, I believe, a bloke whose name eludes me, in Canada of all places. Would I want one? F@#* no! One of my customers in Bungendore has a black Jota he’s selling if anyone is interested. 1

I'm thinking a period Pichler or similar aftermarket fairing, as they were hot poop in the 80s. Quite possibly a 120 crank, as it also has the calipers to the rear.
audiomick Posted December 11 Posted December 11 (edited) Going by the photos here, the fairing is original. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Laverda/laverda_rgs1000 82.htm https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Laverda/laverda_rgs1000_84.html Edited December 11 by audiomick
