Got a notice from my insurance company the other day, you can get a device in the car so they can follow your driving habit. Better rates if you behave. NO thank you. I rather pay more. What a bloody world. Quite a few of the buddies to, we are happy we grew up in a time with not a lot of restrictions.

Cheers Tom.

I did this with Progressive.
I installed the device in the car we didn't take on vacation lol
Saved about a third on the rate after that.

Some US insurance companies won't insure your car without a separate tracker fitted. People have bought second hand cars and have battery drain issues and subsequently found a tracker wired into the system they were unaware of the previous owner was obliged to fit. Maybe the DD preppers and tin foil hat brigade aren't looking so silly now, lol.

I like this YouTuber, who is an Englishman living in Australia and who is an engineer & a lawyer.

I cannot tell if he’s awake, even to the global climate boiling change nonsense. However, he is spot on about the impossibility of moving everybody to EVs.

Important to remember that the phrase "By 2030, you will own nothing and be happy"? Did you think that the global publicity for this, essentially code for the United Nations "Agenda 21" & their "Sustainable Development Goals", is a bluff? I don't.

Like many bike and car enthusiasts I enjoy riding and driving and actually get quite a lot of satisfaction from doing it well...

If I'm to be merely a passenger while some device controls everything then as much as I hate public transport maybe it'll be time to embrace it. Hopefully by this stage my sphere of movement will be quite limited.....

No doubt that’s said tongue in cheek with an “I’ll be right Jack” attitude but it’s not a world I’d wish for my kids and potential grandies to live in

All these changes can conceivably be useful tools in the hands of a controlling totalitarian regime (there’s been plenty of those over the last hundred years so it is feasible)

I’m sick of all this effectively stripping away of freedoms and enjoyment of life and imposition of constant government intrusion in your face

Being a white privileged man I’m consciously misappropriating the cry, “I can’t breathe.. I can’t breathe.. I can’t breathe!”

But there you have it. The restrictions even apply to voicing an opinion now

As for me - I will not comply

That little 666 device in your pocket tells "someone" EVERYTHING you are doing . It monitors your driving habits , speed , location 7/24 . Your preferences in ice cream , political propaganda , pornographic "research" , anything . Some entity is very interested in you and the population of the Earth .

1984 came a long time ago.

What it is about is "Kundenbindung", i.e. the manufacturer keeping contact with the customer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not up for that in any way. I buy the product, and when I want a new one, I'll contact the manufacturer off my own bat. So leave me alone and stop sending me "informative e-mails". That the gathering of such information can lead to "big brother" style surveillance is obvious, if the laws of the land allow that. Here in Germany, there are a number of hurdles to prevent that.

Whatever, I don't like the idea that my car is constantly "phoning home" to tell the manufacturer where I am, but I don't see a global conspiracy in that. It is "only" the manufacturer trying to consolidate his contact to the customer. Bad enough, but not the end of the world. :huh2:

In the case of farm tractors , IDK what "repairs" and what level of "repairs" cannot be done by non-JD technicians .

On average there are many farmers that can R & R a lot of components on their self-propelled equipment . And by the same notion there are things that do not need to be touched . Their philosophy "turn it up until it black-stacks" will not go too well .

I can see a seller not allowing a owner to "fiddle around" with things they don't understand and having a negative result on the performance of the machinery.  I would want to know more before taking sides w/this debate . In the automotive world it seems like if you change wiper blades you need to reprogram the PCM .

Doing dumb stuff falls into the category of 'non-sustainable business model' so isn't really an issue.
Of course the farmer- or construction site operator- can change a tire, track, axle, wheel, etc. The mechanical bits were never at issue. The real problem is that relatively simple repairs like replacing an injector pump or crankshaft sensor is no longer possible because the system has to be reprogrammed.
