Well, I only tell the story as I heard it. Crated, delivered at Barber, never to be seen or heard of again. I can give you the engine # if you find he has an 'unclaimed' pile somewhere. Or a different story...

i just texted Dave.  I just saw him last at the John Day gathering this summer, so will see if he gets the text.  who knows what he might know.... some perry mason work.

I'd like to think there's some simple explanation or rebuttal, there was of course a bit more to the story but I'm not one to air dirty laundry in a public forum- I had no idea Dave was a well-known and apparently respected expert. I don't know this seller personally either, so there's that.

all good.  I don’t think dave is on this forum, but he’ll get back to me at some point and i’ll let you know.  he’s a really good guy, with a very long resume of working directly for moto guzzi and various moto guzzi tech and race teams back when they did that going on, but dont think he does a lot of forums or email.

i’ll get back to you soon once i have info.  might prove helpful one way or another.

Dave Blue is by no means a thief!

My name is Brian McCall. I have known the original owner of this bike since he bought the bike from GT Motors in Lansing, MI where I was working at the time. I uncrated the bike and set it up for owner.  I have a personal stake in this as I am the person who transported the transmission to Dave. I was given the transmission in a box which I then transported to Dave. I never inspected the contents of the box. Dave called sometime later and asked where the back cover was. I referred him to the owner who claimed it was all in the box he gave to me at Barber Motorsports. I have no idea where the back cover is or has been. I do not believe either Dave or I ever saw or had possession of the back cover. My belief is that the original owner misplaced the cover and did not include it with the partially disassembled transmission I was given.

I spoke with Dave this morning and I am willing to put the current owner in touch with Dave and have Dave's permission to do so. I think the original transmission should go back into this bike. I get the feeling that Dave does too.

Ah, good. Let's be clear, he didn't call Dave a thief. It was said that the transmission went to Dave at Barber, and it wasn't seen again, and 'follow up calls' didn't (get resolution) He did *not* say 'Dave stole my transmission', and I was not interested in hearing the sad tale, as I knew what I was buying.

That said, I would very much like to have the original box back in the bike. There is one box of parts I missed loading that I'll collect this weekend, I have no idea if any trans parts are there. If Dave has money in to the trans, (assuming he still has it) I have no problem covering that bill; also, I have no interest in involving the original owner as that ship apparently sailed years ago. I'll speak directly to Dave about it, if that works PM me and I'll give my contact information. If Dave wants the original owner's contact information to affix the headstone to their conversations, I'll ask him this weekend if that's ok with him.

all sounds great.

as has been said by me and others, dave is a helluva guy, and I was just dragging my feet, not wanting complicate things for Dave at all, but looking to see if there might be some good pathway to happiness in all this. Sounds like Brian is in direct contact too, so i'll back out.

just fyi, this is not a verb. It's a noun, like Batman. Pressureangle is a helluva guy too. ;)

I stand corrected, so does my android. Lame excuse I know right? At least in this case, we were able to connect, so there is that.

seems brians noun use and grammar would pass just fine with Count Olaf ("grammar is the greatest joy in life, don't you know...", or maybe it was some other character from that Lemony Snicket movie my daughter used to quote), or any of our jr high grammar teachers, and pressureangle will be the helluva guy in this group to perhaps soon have a proper new gear box :->
