anyone know off top of your head if the throttle bodies from ‘03 v11 fit the ‘02 V11’s?

Are you speaking of the entire TB assembly, including the injectors and TPS mounted to the rail set?

Either way, I see no changes in the parts or the assembly across the V11 SpineFrame range; should all be interchangeable.

thx Docc. 

would just be a single throttle body.  I've collected most of the bits needed to do Phil's process of addressing my seeping left throttle body, but weighing that against popping on a used throttle body and putting off the rebuild process for a while.

When my throttle bodies were replaced under warranty, for dripping after shutoff (another story perhaps), the dealer informed me they were considered an entire assembly on the rails with the injectors and TPS.

Later, when I decided to get a spare set, I only found the assemblies available.

So, not sure about finding one throttle body, without the assembly, let alone that there is a right and a left. :huh2:

I see no reason they would NOT work . If you have access to Moto Guzzi parts you could see if it will .  And , yes this is considered an assy. that is why EVERYTHING has Loctite on everything w/threads . I don't like it but that's the way it goes . If you were trying to fix one side you would have to find a dismantler that would be willing to part this out.

These "dismanters/breakers" typically break bikes down into their smallest components to get the maximum return. It is telling that individual throttle bodies are not typically encountered.

I would also consider, if one side needs attention, the other is probably not far behind . . .

No , but you can buy the assy. for (probably) a good price , inspect it . If it looks good , install it . If not , tear into it and try to make one out of two .

For more specific, I should add that there’s a used full assembly available from an ‘03.

whether I’d do nothing, or replace both sides, or try and just remove the left one from the assembly and install on mine, that’s part of the evaluation playing out.  Was going out tonight to eyeball the assembly and see what makes sense.  I know some of that assembly doesn’t just “pop apart”, so weighing the body overhaul vs maybe just replacing the one side, or the whole thing (both sides).

Also, be aware that the assembly just not just "slide out" (at least on the ShortFrame). A bit of frame "crabbing" is needed to get clearance for removal/installation.

hmm.  how much cursing, or body english, or removal of other stuff is needed?  true, the long frame may help slighlty, but i wouldn't think much.

Man, that's a good question. I last performed this task in 2002 for mySport's warranty replacements.

Perhaps another member can speak up that has done a throttle body assembly swap within recent memory . . .

roger roger.  i seem to recall it being a bit tricky when i tried to remove the whole setup a few years ago, but its fuzzy.

I seem to recall very little additional clearance is needed. The simplest way I can see to do that is to secure the bike on a lift with a platform jack under the engine sump, then:

  • Loosen, but do not remove the mounting bolts at the front of the motor to the front subframe.
  • Get access to the upper and lower gearbox mounting bolts and remove them (only after seeing to it that the bike is secure).
  • Lower the platform jack allowing the driveline to pivot away from the spine frame until there is clearance to remove the throttle body assembly.
  • If a RedFrame, some clever P.O. might have added the additional frame-to-bellhousing plate. If so, the lower bolts in the throttle rod tunnel must be removed. Fiddly, but not impossible.

Pretty sure this can be done without removing the tank, airbox, frame sideplates, or swingarm.

Did I mention the bike should be absolutely secure on the lift? :ninja:
