luckyescobedo Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Hello all. I am looking for an alternative to the OEM tank/chin pad on my MY 2000 V11 (greenie). Specifically, I am looking for the OEM carbon fiber version that came on the Scura. (The goal here is to find a replacement that fills the cavity on top of the tank once the OEM pad is removed, but do so without the added height of the OEM pad - alternate part suggestions welcome!) 1

Well you can forget about the Scura one if you want lower or even equal height to the original V11 rubber pad. I have a Scura one on my bike and it's at least the same height as the original and maybe even a little taller. Edited April 7 by Lucky Phil 3

Trying for that slick tank look of "something else" in the collection? 3
audiomick Posted April 7 Posted April 7 @docc that would be quite pretty if it had a sensible motor sticking out from under the tank. 2

luckyescobedo Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 (edited) Thanks for that photo @Lucky Phil, as that now disabuses me of the notion that the Scura piece is lower than the OEM pad on my greenie... As @docc rightfully guessed, I am looking to achieve a "level playing field" with the top of the fuel tank. Less for aesthetics than to accommodate a small tank-ring-mounted tank bag. The thickness of the OEM pad gets in the way. Also @docc, regarding the GB500, that little brat is a ton of fun! (as you well know!) Edited April 8 by luckyescobedo 2
docc Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I seem to recall there are some tank bag mounting rings that accommodate the height of the chin pad. Perhaps someone here remembers where to find that tread?
luckyescobedo Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 This thread covers some solutions tried by others. In particular, this tank ring option from Hepco & Becker mounts to the tank ring while accommodating the height of the chin pad. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but at least its an option... 1

I've never been a fan of these tank bag solutions on a plastic fuel tank. Of the six screw positions on the std tank cap only three hold the cap assy to the plastic tank via 5mm bolts. You are relying on 5mm bolts threaded into inserts moulded into plastic. In a perfect world it's probably going to be ok but I wouldn't be comfortable with it myself unless it was a very modest and low tank bag without any real weight in it. Phil 1

Having said that, mine has the long tank without the chin pad, so the ring doesn't have to sit as high. Nevertheless, I like the system, and have it on my Breva 750 as well. 1 hour ago, Lucky Phil said: ...Of the six screw positions on the std tank cap only three hold the cap assy to the plastic tank via 5mm bolts.... Good point. Only every other screw is long, and really goes into the body of the tank. So yes, I wouldn't load the ring up too much.
