Headlights

Hi all. I'm trying to find out how important the piece of metal that shields the lamp in the headlight really is. As I tried to snug it up the plastic mounting boss cracked so I took it out. The plastic reflector seems to be coming off in a couple of spots. Does anyone make a metal reflector that will do the job? Any type of headlight conversions?lemme know thanks
