Guest rotorhead Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 This more of an informational post than anything else although I welcome any comments. My 2000 V11 with 10k miles on it began to exhibt excessive brake dust on the left side of the front wheel and the rotor was significantly hotter then the right side so I decided I better take a look. Removed caliper on three seperate occasions and removed pistons and seals and cleaned them with brake fluid. I understand that if any synthetic or DOT 5 type fluids are used (as per Brembo) then the seals will swell and cause even more problems. Could not locate a rebuild kit as it seems that Brembo themselves (whom I did contact) will not make one because of liability issues. Yoyodyne also says they do not market one specifically for this caliper, a 32/34 with the correct pistons.... http://www.yoyodyneti.com/default.aspx Anyway, after cleaning, bleeding and riding multiple times I still had "rub". Decided to purchase a new caliper...2 bills . Installed new one last night and bled system until I was blue in the face. Took for a ride today and wheel seems to be much cleaner however it now appears the rotor is slighlty warped causing a momentary rub on pads. Right side still runs alittle hotter than left, I assume its because of the "warpage" bumping the pad. The lever at the bar seems alittle soft this time as well....may still be some air trapped in the system. A replacement rotor is between 2 and 3 bills. Any thoughts/comments on caliper rebuilding and system bleeding as it seems to be difficult to purge the system entirely....dunno why, just is. Also, do you think the warped rotor might cause that side to run alittle warmer than the left and that a new or replacement rotor would fix that. Thanks, Keith
robbiekb Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 i sympathise, my rotors both warped after around 12 miles from new. I finally got round to replacing them with Fully floating rotors from BrakeTech. Now i must say i'm pretty stoked on the increased stopping power
callison Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Try here: TAW Vehicle Concepts Brembo Products I bought a set of calipers from them and they were very helpful as well as prompt.
robbiekb Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Here's the link to the BrakeTech Axis Rotors that i put on 2 months ago. http://www.braketech.com/axis.html i made an error on my last post, actually my Stock Rotors warped at 1200 miles.
twhitaker Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I use Speed Bleeders from http://www.speedbleeder.com/ They have little check valves built in which eliminates having to repeatedly opening and closing the bleeder. SB8125L for the front and SB1010S for the clutch. One or the other for the rear. They are $7.00 each. Get the bleed bag too.

For those who have been around (and lived through) the '00-'02 round hole rotors, know that they are known to be problematic. What you posted on the Brembo calipers is true about the rebuild kit, and the round hole rotors (spec'd by the manu.) are known to be "junk" even by Brembo themselves. If you/anyone is noticing similar symptoms, I'd try starting with excessive cleaning of the rotor 'buttons' with brake cleaner. Seems to help resolve most issues. I've done a good bit of Brembo brake research myself, and have documented it on GuzziTech.com - http://www.guzzitech.com/Brembo-Upgrades-Todd_E.html Yes, I can get/source anything Brembo sells. If anyone is interested in anything, or needs specific questions answered about Brembo brake parts, please feel free to e-mail me direct. Todd@GuzziTech.com
