Guest WildJackal Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 My Sport runs so sweet at about 70 degrees F. It is noticably less smooth at 60 degrees. I also notice that below 60 degrees the bike feels smoother with 10/40 oil instead of 15/50. Am I nuts? Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a temperature sensor or something that might make the bike adjust better to lower temperatures? On guzzitech there is a note about installing a brass "head temperature" sensor holder for 1.6M bikes. Does anyone else run lighter oil when the temperature dips?

There certainly is a head temp. sensor that actually adjusts fuel mapping, which causes your bike to run differently, yes. You'll also notice as the temp drops, so will your gas mileage. The 1.5M ECU does not need the brass head temp block. ToddGuzziTech.com
Guest Thundering Subash Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 My thoughts on this are: My bike runs GREEEAAAT!!! in cold weather. By great I mean better acceleration and very little to no pinging on hard acceleration. The colder it is the better it seems to run. Currently when I go to work in the a.m. it's around 30 degrees F. I should also note that gas mileage is virtually the same in cold vs warm weather. In reading Guzziology and other info. on this site and others, in stock form the CO2 setting is set way too low on these machines, but when it's cold outside it is at it's highest. BTW My '02 Lemans is virtually stock, the only changes being 8,000 break in miles, Raceco valve settings, and a K&N filter. When I finally decide to break my bank account and add freer flowing exhaust, I'll be sure to get my bike tuned and dyno'd (to include upping the CO2 settting). I'm lucky to be near a very good Guzzi shop, Manley Cycle. I just need to take advantage of that fact. -Chris
Gio Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Does anyone else run lighter oil when the temperature dips? I run 10/40 in winter and 20/50 in summer (makes sense to me) but can not say that I notice any difference in performance that could be attributed to oil viscosity. Gas consumption is much higher when its cold however. Gio
