BrianG Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Paul, I have seen some bearings that had the inner race somewhat wider than the outer race. This makes the determination of the critical issue important. So long as the bearing's outer race is fully carried by the wheel, and it is if the dust seal can be installed, the primary longevity issue is lateral bearing load..... either preload or post-tightening axle-clamping load. This is defined by a snug-fit of the inner races to the spacer. Bearing set-depth is non-critical.
Paul Minnaert Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 bearings with different innner and outer ring sizes? that should be in the specs then. What I know is that my front wheel with a proper spacer, after a year the inner ring turns very light, just as mounted. I don't use the spacer that goes through the bearing, but same size bearings with a alu tube between them. Just a bit loctite on the tube so it doesn't fall out when i remove the axle.
