Here is how I would grade the tires that I have tried:

Bridgestone OE

Handling B Traction A Wear D (rear wore fine but front cupped after 2000 miles)

Avon Azarro II

Handling B Traction B Wear B

Dragon GTS

Handling A (quick and predictable, but perhaps too loose) Traction B Wear B

Contiforce

Handling C (high speed wobble, but otherwise excellent handling) Traction B Wear B (note the contiforce was super cheap! and an excellent choice for slower riders)

Metzeler Sportec

Handling A (but like the Pirelli, maybe a little too twitchy, but I think the Metzeler was just a little better than the Pirelli for handling) Traction B Wear C (front is wearing fine but rear wore out nearly twice as fast as any other tire that I tried)

Dunlop D220 WOW! what a tire!

Handling A Traction A Wear ? (too early to tell)

Note that I am still using the front sportec with the rear Dunlop and it seems to be a fine match. I am not sure how the Dunlop front will do...

Has anyone else tried a D220?

I had Dunlop 220's put on front and back Saturday. My Nero Corsa had Metzeler Sportec M1's that lasted just short of 6000 miles. The new 220's feel smoother and transition into turns very nice but with less than 300 miles, I have not had a chance to really try hard cornering yet. :huh2:

when the roads are wet and icy, bridgestones become tombstones.

...the very idea of bike ride brings cementary to mind.

But whenever I am caught by rain my Bridgestones never failed me yet.

Its a very catchy rhyme (b'stones/t'stones), but as with most generalizations, needs to be treated as such. The 020's have survived 2 Canadian wet/cold/warm winters and have assisted to keep me upright.

I really don't think there is a bad tyre out there from the major companies.

Hard topic...

Very few of us has tried more than a few different tyres on our V11s

and we have different preferences. Grip vs wear for starters.

I can say one thing the Diablos are the successor of Dragon and are

much better overall.

I have Dragon Corsas on right now,

marvelous grip but a bit unstable in high speed

and slightly scary when cooled by rain.

I would like to try Dunlop D208s which some fast guys I know swear by,

but economic reality probably make me stick with what works - Diablos.

What might be the difference in handling between a 170 or 180?

Heh!

On the 5.5" rim, turn in is improved. Back turns into a corner same time as front rather than half an hour later.

Affected also by tyre profile.

170 may go off tread at less lean than 180 (5.5" rim).

Try a search for 170, 5.5" rim etc - there's been much lively discussion about this...

Yep, i am with you Goran

Nothing more personal than our feeling with tyres.

I have some preference for the Diablos too.

I have tryed the Dunlop 207 but they were too big a 180/55 207 rear is in fact a 190 cm large so you have some trouble with the cardan

i send them to the dust been after 1000 km

but 208 seems to be really different so ...

The best i have ever tryed are the Pirelli Dragon Evo Super Corsa.

They were incredible last winter by only 3 °c outside i have sport rides in November with knees really near the road :race:

It was on the supertwin, and it is different from standard guzzi's.

the geometry is so different, this bike is really soft with tyres.
