jsciullo Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 I have a 2000 - V11 Sport and keep reading about lowering the front end 1/2 - 3/4". I noticed on the newer bikes that they have a metal "spacer" to take up the space between the shock top and the triple clamp. I suspect that it would be a good idea to get that spacer. How are you guys doing this? Thanks, Jim
jtucker Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 Spacer? I'm not sure what that would be for. In stock form, my fork tubes were nearly flush with the top of the triple clamp. Now, the fork tubes are nearly 1/2" above the clamps. I don't know where a spacer would come into play here...
dlaing Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 On the newer bikes the clip-ons are mounted above the upper triple clamp. I suspect that is what Jim thinks is the spacer. Its hard to see in the photos. There should be no issues when lowering the front end. Just don't lower it so much that it clamps below where it was lathed to fit the clamps, or so low that your tire hits the bike, whichever comes first. My bike handled much better. I forget if I went 3/8ths or 3/16ths of an inch. In any case do go lower.
emry Posted January 3, 2003 Posted January 3, 2003 I lowered my Scura 10mm. That is all that I could due to the taper. My steering is noticably quicker.
Guest TH001 Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 I lowered mine 1/2 inch the steering/ handling are noticably better.
