gthyni Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 some of us can't help ourselves.. just because it is an old mill of a engine and it is silly to try to match even a modern small inline-four like R6/GSXR600/CBR600RR does mean we can't ticker along to see what we can make of it anyway. Maybe it will be a bitch to drive in town traffic or touring but I don't care 'cause I don't like touring and rather use the BSA in town traffic anyway. A friend of mine has a bad back and if he get he's FZ750 streetfighter project of the ground I could probably buy his Hayabusa for a resonable price. Lots and lots of power, but where is the fun in that? Tinkering with my V11 will give me at best 100hp doing the same with a Busa gives the double of that, but still no more fun and probably cost a lot more since thing get more complicated to do at home. Riding a sportbike at 40+ while living at the edge of the arctic circle is stupid anyway, so there is little need to be rational about motorbikes for me

I am to full to think clearly. There was to much food on the table this afternoon. I wonder how you can make a consideration with sense today. Merry Christmas anyway...

It's just that I don't want people going into it thinking that it will be either easy or cheap, nor is it likely that any gains made are going to be earth shattering!!! Look, I'm responsible, (if you can call it that?) for the construction of the engine and gearbox that came 2nd in the NSW club championship (Period 4.) the year before last and 3rd the year before that. It wasn't the fastest bike by any stretch of the imagination but it was a damn sight quicker than it originally was when it rolled off the line at Mandello but it was reliable and consistent in it's finishes. I agree completely that we should be playing with them and making them go better but the V11 donk is already in a pretty high state of tune. I honestly think that more can be gained by getting the suspension set up properly, THEN start on the motor. Pete

Pete, you are always very helpful even when us silly guys walk into la-la-land of excess Guzzi tuning. It is good to point out the limitations, to get cheap performance the best way is the swap to whole thing against a used CBR600RR. For me (as for you AFAIK) part of the Guzzi experience is messing around in the garage - if I do this let see what the happens then. I have already adapted some front and back Paioli suspension last winter - works and looks great. Also welded myself a 2into1 exhaust. This winter is "motor winter", found some parts on ebay and the classified on this site which are going in together with some mild porting. Not becasue I need much more power.... I just want to see what can be done

With the extra weight of the Guzzi it might just be possible to get them to work right When I rode a Zane Laverda I thought somebody was trying to hammer a treetrunk up my arse with a pile-driver!!! If anyone ever got the springs wrong in a bike it was that one. My bum gets sore just thinking about it!!! Don't say it Tex Pete
antonio carroccio Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Ghezzi has a Paioli fork (inner 41mm) for 900,- Euro.

With the extra weight of the Guzzi it might just be possible to get them to work right Rear shock from a Laverda Zane, the fork from a Brian&Ghezzi SuperTwin My V11 is still a bit heavier than any of those but I don't find them too soft.
callison Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Pete, you are always very helpful even when us silly guys walk into la-la-land of excess Guzzi tuning. There's no replacement for additional displacement. One of these days, I'm going to obtain the rest of the parts to go with the oversized barrels and stroker crank I have squirreled away. The problem is, I keep looking at that water cooled monster and wondering how that would work on the 1100 block with the stroker crank. Expensively, no doubt.
Dirtybill Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I'm tired of working on bikes. It once was fun and in some cases more fun than riding them, but now, I wanna ride, so when I need a HP fix, out comes the R1. A helluva lot easier than tearing down an engine. To each his own though
Guest tiger956 Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 I am looking for some guidance (mechanical). I have a 2003 LeMans and I would like to built it up to a higher performance machine (H/P + running) what do you recommend I have done to her. If you would give me a few different scenarios, I would appreciate your input. I live Calgary, Alberta, Canada and I have owned a T3 and T5 in Australia. 39353[/snapback] Don't know anything about Guzzi's as i'm in the process of starting to rebuild a 2002 LeMans but i've already bought FBF hi compression piston's, FBF air box with a BMC filter and kit, Leo Vinci carbon exaust and going to buy a Power Commander III and hopefully put it back together and see what we've got. should perk it up some i would think happy new year gary
friskycutter Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Most men can stand adversity, if you want to test a mans character give him (guzzi) power---Abe Lincoln
