Bike Ramps

I'm sure that many of you have looked for, or purchased, a bike ramp. I would like your thoughts on what bike ramp is worth buying. Almost all of the ramps that I find on the internet have rungs which appear to be a 4-6in. gap. I would assume that when loading a bike the size/weight of a BMW LT that the rungs would make pushing the bike into a pickup bed difficult.

I'm sure that I could have a custom made ramp for lots of $$$, but I'm looking for a reasonably priced single ramp.

Thoughts??

Made my own out of a 2 x 12 and a piece of 1/4" plate 6" x 12". I put a bend on the end of the plate to act as a lip to hang on the edge of the tailgate.

I have the "rung" type..... I use it for the dirt bikes onto the little trailer, but have also used it to trailer the Tuono and the V11. No problems pushing it up the ramp because of the rungs..

If your truck is very tall, you will want the longest ramp possible and even then it may not do it. I have an F250 4x4 and bought 96 inch ramps...but they are too steep and scary to get the bike up there with the truck on level ground...may have worked if I'd backed the rear wheels into a ditch. Opted for a trailer...they work great for getting on and off of that. k

this is  the ramp I use. and it's great...light folds up  .....I bought it  for 70$ at mid-ohio vintage days....i believe the dealer was from new jersey as well?

That's the deal! I have one like it that I bought through Cycle Gear for about 2x that price. Don't worry about the gaps between rungs: the spacing is such that it's about like pushing your bike across a series of 4" potholes; bikes heavy enough to matter have wheels big enough to bridge the gap w/o noticing, scooters are light enough that you just pick it up & throw it in the back! ;)

Also, that weight rating is very conservative: I've pushed (with help!) a GL1200 up that thing w/ nary a twitch. And the arch is *vital* to prevent hangups.

I have one of these too. It's just great for my trailer. Unknown how it will behave on my new Toyota Tundra which is more than just a little bit higher than the trailer.
